Not that I need the air con at the mo but when I turned the air con on the other day nothing happened. The light came on on the switch but the normal change in engine note (is this the compressor engaging?) wasn't there and no cold air was coming out. I had a look in the build manual and thought it could be the a/c relay in the engine bay? Is there an easy way of testing this relay or should I just find someone who know their air con to take a look?

Could be out on the low pressure switch. Take it to your nearest local automotive a/c or a refrigeration company who can do auto a/c and get them to pop a set of gauges on to check for pressure, 5 min job. Could be a hundred other things, but I'd try that as a starter.

Is this this black thing with denso written on it that sits just underneath the low side with the blue cap on it?

No, that's not the switch. It will be attached to the pipe, sorry I can't be more descriptive. I'm sure someone will come up with a pic.
