exhuast manifolds

i no this has been mentioned loads before but i need some help. i had the rear manifold welded and it has gone again very quickly. my mechanic has said its due the the manifold being put under stress from the engine when excelerating and also the torque of the engine is wripping the manifold apart. what can i do about this. why would it do this and will the uprated manifolds stop this problem. my car is a 2.5
please help. i dont want to spend more money out on new manifolds if it going to happen again so quickly.

you will need to get them rewelded with a brace to take the strain off the welding

get the new uprated stainless or inconel ones available from the factory.

I had the same problem, I got mine welded and 6 months later found cracks up the inside of them, small fragments had broken off and damaged the turbo's.

I have just fitted the upgraded stainless steel manifolds supplied from noble, didn't go as far as the inconel bad boys but the stainless ones should see it fixed, i dont want to have to fork out for new turbo's again, i suggest you just bite the bullet and gets the shiney ones.

well welding lasted a few weeks. how much are the new ones. and can i just replace one as the front the front one is fine it does not seem to strain the front one atall. very frustrating as 200 quid down the drain.

+1, about £800 i think, quite a sting, but just needs sorting, or may end up costing you more in new turbos.
I am getting some custom made at a fraction of the cost, mine are still fine atm, but i do not want to wait for them to break, £800 seems a bit of a rip off to be honest, i think when i get back over i should start getting my exhaust guy to make them in batches and start shipping them over to England
I dont know why these things are so expensive in england, i got full S/S exhaust with flexi joints the ull works for 800 euros fitted, seems like somebody is cashing in, if the manifolds can be made for 200 euro in Cyprus.
The materials are not expensive, he templates the flange plates and laser cuts it in minutes, then just an hour of tig welding. costs about 50 euro in material + labour and the build/weld quality is 2nd to none.

Not really any other options just now. You could replace one, when i removed my front one thinking it was fine it was all split up the inside welds, get yours off and have a look.

I had my complete exhaust fabricated and the materials alone were £700 in the UK... that does include CATS and titanium mesh silencers but still you couldnt build a complete system in the UK for 800euro unless you didnt include labour at all.

regarding the cracking manifolds, I have had my front one welded up and it keeps cracking... I decided it was pointless welding up again and wasnt prepared to shell out £800 just for stronger ones with no other gain so I solved the issue and had flexis fitted to the exhaust to take the strain off of the turbo.

I still need to sort the cracks in the manifolds but once done they shouldnt crack again... if you take them off you can strengthen them by welding plates over the places they crack to take the strain off the welds as someone mentioned above.

What are the flexi joint. Where do they go and what they made from and where do I get them from.

Your exhaust guy will find a suitable place for them, just basically need to go in between the turbo and the brackets, they look like a criss/cross of metal.



See that bit that is not heat wrapped, just visible under the IC box, that is a flexi joint, just so that movement of the engine doesnt put stress on the flange plates where connecting to the turbo, or just type in exhaust flexi joints into google and you should be able to get a price, just need to know your pipe diameter.

Ye, i dont think he will be willing to build exhaust sytems, as he likes to fit them perfect in situ, but i think i could tempt him into doing a batch of S/S manifolds, problem is now i have told you all how much i get them made for, but we all have to make money somehow right I will talk to him, if he is interested i will work out a price, I can personally guarantee that they will be top quality. These are a piece of cake to him, he has shown me seriously complex manifolds he has custom made and they are just a work of art.
Bear in mind i am not going to be back over there until middle Nov, so it would be end of Nov before i could start making deliveries. I will post update with price at a later stage for those who are interested.
