Is the T28 Turbo a direct replacement for the original on an M12, obviously needs remaps etc but does it bolt on where the old one came off
Yes same fitting, but it is a hybrid, send your T25's off to universal Turbos, and as long as the T25's are in generally good condition, they will upgrade them to T28, for about £325 each, they will just bolt straight back on.MadMacMcMad said:
What is the estimated power gain in changing from T25s to T28s.
My Turbo seals are on their way out, so it makes sense to do this. Needs the new SS manifolds too. + the subsequent remap.
Best not tell the missus!
Has anyone done this? What results did you get after the re-mapp?My Turbo seals are on their way out, so it makes sense to do this. Needs the new SS manifolds too. + the subsequent remap.

I have the Rousch exhaust and fuel pump upgrade, so any numbers of the expected return would be appreciated.

Someone must have some info on results of this mod.
Are there other options when upgrading to a T28? Or is it a stock unit.
I really would like to know from someone who's done this to their Noble.
What power gain?
Any characteristic changes, Lag etc?
Any heat issues?
Thanks

I have not heard of anyone doing just the T25 to T28 conversion, not even Lee during the development of the M400. The move to T28s came with other changes (cam timing - yes it's true that the 3/3R have different cam timing to the M400s and there were good reasons for this at the time) which makes it difficult to do a back-to-back. However, from a pure physics point of view - i.e. running the same boost levels then the differences in power are small and simply down to the differences in the compressor map efficiencies.
The T28s will take another few hundred rpm to reach the same boost. Typically other changes to the engine configuration are wrought to improve the whole setup at the same time as the change in turbos, like running more boost, exhaust mods and cam timing etc.
Given that the standard 3/3Rs run the OEM Ford cast pistons, and Lee changed to forged pistons for the M400s, that should tell you something about the OEM pistons running at double their design spec peak cylinder pressure. Think carefully about how much more power you want and how long for. Lee couldn't take the warranty risk of piston failures in the M400s. Not that I've heard of uprated 3/3Rs going bang from piston failure, but I'm fairly sure it'll happen eventually.
