Oil in Air Filter Pipes

Guys.......had the air filter pipes off today while I was fitting a Pro Alloy catch tank, and found the a fair amount of oil inside the pipe which is connected to the front turbo

This is the other end of the pipe connected to the front turbo

It cant be good to be finding oil inside here is it ??

Any help appreciated as usual

Quite common to see 'a bit' of oil in the pipes but that does look excessive. Any other observations on the car in general, smokey on start-up etc?

Why are you fitting a new catch tank ?............
Ah yea because the standard one puts oil back into the front turbo air intake pipe.
Fit the tank and the problem should not happen again if all else is ok.

Nothing else to report..... the car is running great at the moment....I'm assuming the only place this can be coming from is from the turbo ??? Or can this be coming from another source?

It's the coolant catch tank I was replacing to get rid of that 'orrible plastic Ford unit fitted as standard.

Ah a Pro alloy header tank you are fitting then ?
Replace the nasty metal oil seperator tank with one which does not vent to the front intake pipe and all should be ok.

Excess oil vapor out of the breather (and into the intake track for the front turbo) is generally a sign of too much oil in the sump--coupled with some spirited driving . I have long since disconnected the pipe between the swirl pot and the intake track and just vent it to atmosphere. Turbos need oil, but not via the air intake!
