Optimal Tyre Sizes
Discussion
There have been a few discussions about the tyres sizes on the Noble but nothing really concrete on the search function. I have read and been told that the supplied tyres are not the optimal sizes for the wheels
.
I have been recommended to try 235/40 and 275/35 on the OEM sized wheels - I believe others have tried even wider.
The following site suggests that the wheel size should be around 85% of the tyre section width
http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible_pg2.html
This sort of confims the recommendation but depends upon the tyre choice and how they are designed.
So has anoyone moved up to these sizes and noticed any changes in the handling or issues with fitment/rubbing on either fast road or track use?
I will stick to Summer performance road tyres for the time being and whilst again there are many different views, the Goodyear F1 Assymetric has consistently received very good feedback and seem a strong contender at the moment.
Thanks

I have heard 235 front 285 rear were very popular with our US counterparts, slight problem with rubbing encountered on the 285's but only on the clam shelf, easily notched out to give clearance.
notched out !! Far better to add a little neg camber, added grip when leaning on it too !

Could also try Micheldever? I've always found them to be the cheapest by a long way. Even if you can't get there, a lot of tyre dealers do price matching so all you need is a cheaper quote.

Camskill, but you'll have to get them fitted elsewhere:

This interests me as I'm due some rear soon.
I have Bridgestone RE050E's, the rears last year cost me 135 ea fitted but it looks like now I'm looking at £170+.
So here are the questions:
1. If I have the std front size does it matter if I go for the 275 rears?
2. Would it matter if I went for the F1's (the semi slick type) for the rear while keeping the fronts?
3. If no to number 2, would it matter if I got the F1 (normal tread pattern like the RE050E's) for the rear with my similar tread pattern as my fronts?
Thanks

1. No not a problem but there may some slight/minor modification to the clam as they are all different.
2. Again probably not but I do prefer to have all 4 corners match although many would say that as long as the axle is match is shouldn't be a problem.
3. Assuming no then no but read 2
I will have a better idea on fitment when my 275 F1's arrive and are fitted although they are going on after market rims with different offsets to the standard so many not be the same as the OEM wheels (although I will be replacing the tyres on them next).

Bondy, i'm running 225 on the front and 275 on the rear, no probs at all! I've gone for the GSD3's (v tread pattern) and they're good in wet and dry. As for mixing tread patterns, i'd say it's only a problem if you track the car as you will have different levels of grip from front to rear. Although on my RX7 i'm running same size tyres, on the front i have so3's and on the rear is a pair of so2's and it does tend to understear with the harder compound on the front. All in my own opinion of course.

Can't speak from personal experience but I do recall seeing a thread in the States that says if you widen the rears, you need to widen the fronts as well to maintain the same driving dynamics. IIRC, widening the rears will introduce more understeer if you leave the standard tyres on the front when 'pushing on.'
Personally, my ability runs out well before the tyres do so I'm happy with the standard set-up as Lee designed it.
