Engine running rough when idling

Hi chaps car on tickover is running lumpy.Its a 2.5 the adjustable idle valve was replaced a couple of months ago when i had a similar prob and everything was fine until recently.The idle runs really low when stationary and when i go to accelerate there is a pause (hesitation)then your off.Always ran the car on 95 ron and ran no problem recently have been using 98 ron but i would have thought that this wood not cause this to happen.What could be the problem was going to put some redex in petrol but i know i would just be living in hope that this wood do something.

Hello chris how are you. Iv got the same problem and it is due to a dodgy heat sensor. Thinking car is hot when it's cold. I'm gonna replace mine in next few weeks while it's in pieces.

Hi James yeah doing good thanks hope you both had a good xmas.Do you know if the heat sensor is a ford part? and also is it a replacement you can do yourself where is the heat sensor located.Do you think it could be something else wrong instead cheers mate

If you have the MBE ecu which I think you do, plug in the Easimap software and look at the water and air temps and see if they appear to be what they should be.

yep have mbe ecu Steve will give that a try and see what is what just trying to pinpoint the problem i know it will be a process of elimination thanks for the help

I'm almost certain it's a ford part. It is on back of engine in the middle. It should just screw out. My mechanic said the rough idle is almost certainly this. As when it's hot the idle is too high and when cold it's too low.
