Depending upon the type of sender used I would never install permanently upstream of the turbo - I have seen the effect on the turbo blades when one of the senders breaks

Much prefer it in the downpipe (oh er Mrs
) although accept that the reading will be lower than the manifold but unless you are tuning to EGT don't see a problem as probably not that accurate anyway.
Maybe it is for tuning and then you would remove it and replace the bung

I have been advised that they are made from 304 stainless, if so they will crack in time, they need to 321 material.Mike.

If the standard manifolds lasted 4 years I'm sure these will last longer. Anything will crack given enough time and heat cycles.
mine have been cracked since I bought it... done 30k in the car with no real issues just a little hessitant. Got the manifolds on the bench now and the cracks are large enough to get feeler guages through and 2 inches long 
Got Adrians old M400 ones and have flexis in the exhaust which I beleive will be the only real solution to stop them cracking.
incidentally both my sensors are in the downpipes... same with the M400 ones i have so guessing most 3.0L are like this.
