engine mounts

ok over the past fedw weeks there has been a slight knocking noise in the engine bay. it has now got worse over last few days. when i engage the clutch or tap the throttle i get a knock from behind my ear. so when there is load on engine i get the knock. this to mean sounds like engine mounts and not gear box or clutch as i get the knock on full power if i then hit a bump in the road. where do i get new engine mounts from. its a 2.5. how easy are they to change and it there any upgraded ones. cheers guys.

Sure it's not the rubber exhaust mounts that have gone? Tail pipes end up knocking against the diffuser.

just been outside with flood light and my neibour and it is the near side mount there is about half inch of movement. so pretty sure thats my problem. these things also sound alot worse than they are.

hi simon. your car is looking great. can you remember how much they are. is it just the 2 mounts. are they the same on 2.5 and 3.0l

There are 4 mounts. They are all the same.Vibratechnics do 3 different compound (shore) hardness specs.The hardest ones are too harsh for the road I was advised so in the end I decided on standard for the side ones and the mid hardness for the front and back ones as they are the ones that get the most abuse IMO.

Hi mate , blue mounts are STD £54 per pair , I fitted these side to side . Front to back fitted White ones bit uprated again about £50 ish per pair .

By the exhaust, attaching to the gearbox strut to chassis, under the rear turbo, not sure of the front one.

Back one is behind the exhaust this is the one that gets a battering from the heat , the front one is a absolute bd to get at and you will curse until you are blue in the face :-) my bet ..... Change the back one first both mine and stellas were bollixed !!!

Me being a tight arse, I just changed the rear.

thats sounds good to me. il change the 2 top one and the rear. is it a fairly easy job. any tips.

Half an inch movement sounds alot to me. Are the large washers fitted to the underside of the rubber mount? They may have been modified by cutting the sides of a bit...look in the manual. HTH

Top ones are easy although I had to cut through the drivers side bolt to get it off , you will probably have to take off rear diffuser to get at the bolts on the rear one , make sure you do one at a time :-)

That is a bit clearer to the fronts location. But not much..... lol.

cheers marc. i think i will leave the front one. there cant be that much straine on it anyway the other should take most of the pressure
