It would seem my run of luck with low running costs of my Nob, have somewhat hit a wall. Took my car to our local Noble specialist down here in Devon to get the brakes sorted and sort a slight water leak. The brakes, after replacing the discs and rotors, and having no joy (different garage), it would appear its the bells that are out, and need replacing. My slight water leak would seem to be the head gasket!!! and due to the engine being chain driven I have been advised to replace the chains and tensioners at the same time, and around two days labour!!! At leased it can be done in situ. Arryes, and the manifolds have cracked, for the icing on the cake! cry Are these new Noble manifolds the dogs pods or is there a better alternative available?? :feelingsorryformyself:

What sort of milage have you done ? bit extreem to change cam chains and folowers unless they are showing exces signs of wear , mine has done 35000 and they still looked like new !!! would have thought the chains are goos for 100000 miles easy !!!

Cant see why they are recomending changing you chain etc especially at just 17k... unless of cause its free for labour and just materials extra.

Like Simon I have just put my engine back in and while it was out I had the cover off and took the chain out for inspection etc... at 40k miles mine was still like new.

Do Noble recomend its changed sooner than a mondeo one then?

Apparently, if Noble do a rebuild, they change the chains as standard.

no... my BMW M3 is still on its original chain and done 170k and thats a 3.2L with over 300bhp... chains usually require less maintenance than a belt unless the car doesnt have regular oil changes.

Anyone have any idea what Noble recomend?

Paul,

I went through the new brake pads/Discs scenario and then Noble supplied with new hub units and still problems.

I think you will find that it wont be the bells which are the problem but hub runout. Noble admitted to some bad machine work on the Hubs and my new ones they sent were as bad as the originals.

This can be solved very easily and quite cheaply by getting a company who skims your discs whilst still on the car, A company in Norwich did mine after a long, expensive and frustrating period with brake problem and ever since they have been great and the car transformed.

Matty.

E-mail me if you want more info.

They have tested the hubs and they are fine. Next, they are going to bolt on a new bell and disc, then retest. Out of interest, has anyone tried non-noble manifolds?? Thanks for your help Matty smile

Kerridges quoted 3000 for a head gasket replacement! Lets hope your stealer is better priced, I had mine done for a grand all in, when the HG went, first time.

I'm going through the same thing and having the heads done (again).

No need to do anything with chain and it has been suggested that the valve springs and stems should be upgraded and head bolts upgraded along with lapping the valves.

However, I intend to upgrade my engine at some point in the future and could do without the extra costs so I'm just sticking with std bolts and just lapping the valves.

It all depends on what you want and how much cash you have smile

Labour for my head is approx £600 plus parts.

Not aware of any other manifolds other than the Noble ones.

How much are the alnux ones, couldn't see they had them for the Noble?

Do they have them for the 2.5 also?
