throttle cable advice .

Had a bit of a fright tonite as the throttle stuck open whil i was pulling out the garage 
..........no damage done but revved the sack out my cold engine before i could switch it off 
need to lubricate my cable or replace it ,at the moment it runs down the tunnel ,thought i read somewhere about running a new one down the drivers side pod ??? or better still whats the best stuff to lube it with . thanks Simon

If the cable isn't insulated and routed as far away from the front turbo/downpipe as possible, the cable lining may melt onto the cable, causing it to stick. If this happens, no amount of lubrication will help - you need to replace the cable. ..........no damage done but revved the sack out my cold engine before i could switch it off need to lubricate my cable or replace it ,at the moment it runs down the tunnel ,thought i read somewhere about running a new one down the drivers side pod ??? or better still whats the best stuff to lube it with . thanks Simon Not too difficult to run a new one through the tunnel. I can't remember if the old one just pulled out, or if it's zip-tied in place. Either way, it's not a big deal - just remove the two bottom vent panels, reach inside and you can free up the cable. Then, tape the new cable housing to the old one, and use the old one to pull it through (it helps to have someone feed in the new one as you pull the old one out). Be sure to insulate the new cable (I usually go from the bracket on the intake manifold all the way into the tunnel), and route the cable as far away from the exhaust and turbo as possible.
Interesting mod, running the cable down under the door sill - I haven't done one this way, but it makes sense. Should be easy to do - you can remove the aluminum floor plate under the door sill to get pretty much full access to the area. The only hard part would be fishing the cable from the pedal to the front of the sill area, but you could always remove the wheel arch panel behind the front wheel... Too bad this mod isn't useful on the US cars!
