Diff problems i think.
Discussion
Hi need some advice please.
Bought a noble m12 gto earlier in the week with low milege, car was perfect, no noise's or creeks and in very good condition. I was out driving today and i am now getting a clonking from the rear, clonks alot worse when cornering or pulling away from a standstill. Once im going there are no clonks in a straight line until i corner.
Does this sound like the diff?
Where can the car repaired around surrey, and how much am i talking?
Cheers
Jamie

Personally i would just get a compatent garage to do it. Its an expensive job over 2.5k, there is a way to keep the cost down by cutting a bar out so the gear box can be removed without taking out the engine, you then can have the bar re fitted. This should save a grand maybe.Bought a noble m12 gto earlier in the week with low milege, car was perfect, no noise's or creeks and in very good condition. It may just be CV joint or something, when mine went it would make the back end go all funny while driving in a straight line.

i had exactly same symptoms. turned out to be drive shaft and cv joint it was knackerd. bought a new one off ebay for 50 quid and fitted in an hour problem sorted. my drive shaft had alot off play in it. would clonk as pulling away and oce going it was fine. if you tapped the accelerator when going along it would do it aswell.
Have'nt checked anything yet, going to have a look 2moz.
The car is fine when going along, but is realy bad when going around a corner and when pulling away aswel.
If the diff was nackered then i would have thought it would clonk constantly, not just when cornering or pulling away. What you guys think?

When your car clonked did it feel like something would lock up aswel?

I recently replaced the diff in my 5 speed with a quaife LSD... I also had the gears shot peaned and polished and the box completely refurbished.
Cost me around £1600 inc vat.... if you didnt do the shot peaning etc then you would save another £500
Is that with taking the engine out as that sounds like a good deal. Plans quoted 22hrs for engine out and back in and then there is the clutch diff (i did also have a new box) and all the other little bits.Cost me around £1600 inc vat.... if you didnt do the shot peaning etc then you would save another £500

hi,
Mine did exactly this. I could corner as fast and hard as i liked with the clutch depressed and it was fine. clutch engaged and it would make a horrible clunk noise and jerk the car too.
Pulling away was bad as well. mine went when i was in York and i drove back to Newcastle, towards the end of the journey it would occasionally clunk in a straight line but rarely.
Area52 has the car at the moment and it was the diff! completely wrecked apparently. I bought a LSD for what it is worth.
I hope it isnt for you though!
all the best
