Tyre pressures for high speed cornering

Just reading through the information on the carlimits drivers day they say the following:

Please note that as your vehicle will be cornering at speed, you may need to inflate your tyres more than you would normally. Vehicles such as the Lotus Elise, Caterham etc are usually ok as they are lightweight and designed for high speed cornering, but cars such as Subaru Imprezas, Porsches, Madzas, TVRs etc are recommended to inflate their tyres to the maximum stated on the tyre itself to protect the side wall of the tyre.

So do I need to inflate my tyres to the maximum to protect the side wall? I have Bridgestone S02?

It's a while since I've done a carlimits day but if you have a footpump just take it with you so you can adjust on the day. A Golf had to push up to nearly 50psi to behave on one of the days I did there!

I'm not sure exactly what a car limits day is but do race cars inflate theirs tyres to the max.... not as far as i am aware!

clubsport example:
I run my R888s on my MR2 champ car (as told by an expert supporting me) surprisingly low and even with the modest 1200kg MR2 i have never heard of any problems with the tyres!

As Rob says - take a pump and add some air if the sidewalls are getting scrubbed. Last one I did, I think I put in an extra 5 PSI or thereabouts.

Reason they advise extra especially for heavier cars can be seen from this pic of an R32 Skyline which already had a bit extra in (but not enough)!

If you don't blow them up hard you will damage the sidewalls, if you are unlucky you will destroy your rims, on a Car limits day you will do things to your car that you will never do on the road or track.
