What not to do!!!!

After fitting my new intercooler and, for the first time in almost two years of ownership, waved some tools at it in anger, I decided I would look a little closer at why my drivers seat was flexing so much when cornering (once I had left the comforts of my mates workshop, complete with car hoist!!!). What I found was the front fixing bolt on one side had come loose. No problem I thought, I can reach those allen key heads from the side of the car to remove the seats, who needs a hoist or jack (try it on yours tomorrow). So armed with my tools I set to taking out my seat. Ten minutes later the seat was free, the said bolt tightened and I was feeling quite pleased with myself . Then it came to bolting the seat back again. No problem I thought, just get the two bolts in closest to me and the far ones will line up..........arrrr now that is where I went wrong, its a Noble, so as we all know, assumption is most defiantly with a Noble, the mother of all fk-ups. They didn't line up and trying to screw a allen key bolt in, thats also coated with silicone and depositing most of it on my hands making them nice and greasey, face pressed up against the door sill and my other hand trying to jiggle the seat, is no easy task. After about an hour, and my wife saying, "why don't you leave it till tomorrow, its ten thirty and you only have a head torch", made me even more determined not to be beaten. The job was finished it only took me two hours, so to conclude, who needs a hoist or car jack???????........................I bloody do you stupid bone head!!!

BTDT, got the door sill marks on my face to prove it! I had one other problem, too - my arms are too short to put the bolts back into the inner holes, so I ended up jacking up the car anyway. I think I found that the easiest way was to put in the inner bolts first, then I could pull/pry the outside seat rail while putting in the outer bolts.

I had the passenger seat out at the weekend to adjust the handbrake.
Rather than jacking the car up, I just put an offcut of 6x2 in front of each wheel and drove the car up onto them.
That 2 inches made all the difference!

I removed the seat because it kept sliding rearwards under hard acceleration, the whole mechanism was twisted and needed regreasing so that it locked in.

luckily I had use of a hydraulic ramp. It took two of us a good 15 mins to get the seat back in and re-bolted with a lot of 'to me!...to you!....to me!...to you....not that way you c@£t!' Hats off to you guys with no ramp, on your own! That's a job for Tom Cruise in that wotzit film!
