Hi All,
Can any reassure me about something??
The last few days, i've been driving my 2.5 regularly, but sitting in traffic, & stuck behind traffic on the move, my water temp creeps up to the 100 mark & the fan kicks in.
I'm abit paranoid & have the windows down with the heater on high temp & max speed, don't know why, but this stuck in my head from driving older cars that get hot.
Anyway...... I never really use full boost when the water temp is so high, am I being a big girl??
Is the cooling system efficient on the early cars? (2002)
What can I do (if anything) to keep the temp in check?

Jay,

Do an advanced search on Water + Temp + Ecu as this topic has been covered many a time!!

To cut a long story short you are probably being a BIG girl !!

I went through the same thing (for about a year !!) the guages are not very accurate and do move about a bit (more electrical issues than actual temp). Noble did upgrade the fans on the 2.5 to add cowlling to improve cooling efficiency. The garage I used reckoned that for normal road use (in the UK) the upgrade wouldn't actually make that much of a difference so I didn't bother - net result - car has never over heated or reduced in power !!

So...turn the heater off and just enjoy (but do check your coolant levels)

I have had the same issue - i have just got a repair done on my rad so i will see if it makes any difference, but i have been looking at the upgrades to stop this.

I'm gonna take her out for a spin again (any excuse) & enjoy it more now (it gets really hot in the cabin when the blowers are on max).
I'll keep an eye on the temp gauge & if it is persistent, i might consider the fan upgrade.

Same problem with my GTO3. To the best of my knowledge (not a lot), the original fans had straight blades and weren't up to the job. First upgrade was to replace one! of the fans with a fan that had curved blades and produced a higher airflow. Second upgrage was replace both fans and fit the shroud.

My car still has one of each fan and no shroud. It only causes a problem when sat in traffic in warmer climes.

If I'm reading the post correctly, are you saying they come in at 100. Do they go off again once cooled a bit?

If they do turn off then its fine, on the 2.5 the coolant switch is a thermostat, you need to only worry if the fans don't come on.

checked mine today

its reading approx 88 degs (Pro Alloy rad fitted)

oil temp is approx 90 - it did go up when i stopped to fill up with petrol to approx 100, but came down again when on the move

**Update**
Temp never goes above 100, fan kicks in, temp falls to 90 & this is the pattern when driving for the last few days.
Coming from an aircooled 911, i've never worried about temperature before, so sorry for my unnecesary panicking!!
Thanks for all the advise & reassurance, i guess i've got to get my head around the fact that my car is built properly & will be reliable.

....hell no. All you have confirmed is that the current cooling fans and thermostat switch work
