Smoke Question

Sometimes and when either warming up or re starting the car once warm. When you rev and come off the accelerator i get a bit of smoke out the exhausts. possibly blueish. Are we talking turbo seals?

Turbo seals tend to show more when cold but it could be. Do you still have the standard exhaust? It's easier to spot where the problem is with a 'dual flow exhaust' as you can see which bank is smoking.

Yeah std 3ltr exhaust on a 2.5.

Could be turbo seals, or it could be your engine. Pull off the intake hoses to each turbo, and check inside for oil. While you have the intake hoses off, check the shaft on your turbine for radial and axial play, and see if the turbine spins freely. Pull off the pipe from the intercooler to the throttlebody and check that for oil. I'd also do a leakdown and compression test on the engine to see if it's OK - at the very least, I'd pull and inspect the spark plugs for signs of oil burning.

I have only just had the head gasket done and a leak down test was done and all was fine?

i also have this problem from the front bank however once warm there is no problem just when its cold.

Just drove up to surrey (60 miles), when I got there just rev and back off, nothing.

Then when started up again after 5-10 mins it starts doing it again for about 5 mins then stops. So its doing it warm but after a re start?

Valve stem oil seals? Leaking oil down into the inlet tract after switching off?

take the car for a blast

then let is idle for 5 mins

give it a hard rev

if it smokes its turbo's


or

get someone to follow you - lift off at high rpm's if it smokes on the over run - it could be valve rubbers

if the car smokes at startup and clears quickly - could also be valve rubbers

time for a set of 3r turbo's to be fitted i reckon !

iff your going to fit new turbos would recomend garret m27think they came off a high pressure turbo saab iff i remember right as they spool up straight away hence putting my car high up the grid when it was racing in gt cup series in 2008 theres lots of saabs in scrap yards hense parts available at a resenable price just a thought

Right, took it for a blast let it idle then reved it. First time no smoke, left it for a few seconds then did it again. A very small amount of smoke but black rather than the smoke i have been seeing. Just looked to me to just be showing a little rich.

Any other ideas.

Not put car in yet to sort it. It nows seems (well not noticed it before) that when lifting off and using engine breaking I get pops from the exhaust, could this be linked in anyway?

Despite all this, the car is pulling great?

I wouldn`t think they are linked. I didn`t realise that my car `popped and banged` a bit using engine braking until I saw a video of me/it going up Prescott hill climb. (The cause is usually unburn`t fuel going through into the exhaust system).
