Hi ,A friend of mine has a 2,5 m12?(2002) Which has a hesitation when accelarating from varying revs /load(usually lowish revs/little boost but not allways). It was last serviced 0nly 4k miles ago and less than a year and it had all of the filters /plugs changed by a recognised noble garage. I think it has in the past had a mbe ecu upgrade? is the mbe ecu diagnosable? does it have a fault memory to interogate? and does this upgrade retain all of the mass produced bits like throttle pot ,coil packs etc which might be failing and causing this problem?
It allways seems to go through the problem if you keep you foot down but as it occurs it feels like somebody has just cut the ignition for a split second(or it has gone very weak on the mixture), Also is it standard to have the two open venting dump valves fitted or was there a quieter verson and cleaner one as their seems to be a bit of oil residue spraying from the dump valves causing a slight mess in the engine bay?
I know many questions from a rookie ,i am just trying to help a friend!
Many thanks Cj

what does the boost guage read, if its overboosting (minor leak etc) then the ecu will cut things and you get a hesitation when it really comes on boost.

I recently had a similar problem with my 2002 2.5. It kept stuttering at 5100rpm. Loads of the guys on this forum were very helpful on a group trip to Area 51 Motorsport on their rolling road. Transpired it just needed a good service and the fuel filter cleaned out plus re-setting the plugs to the correct height. Depending where you are you might want to take it to Jetstream at Bruntingthorpe. they sorted mine out quickly and very resasonably priced.

No thats not standard, there are no dump valves as standard. If they are spraying oil then there might be a turbo bearing issue. Usually you can expect to see oil track up the boost hoses immediately after the turbos which isn't usually cause for concern but if that oil has managed to make its way from those hoses, through the intercooler and out the other side (I'm assuming the dump valve(s) are located on the cold side) then there probably is something amiss.
