Right, a bottle of injector cleaner and a set of new plugs later... still coughing. Bah. So I poke around the engine bay while she's still running and find a gentle breeze of warm air squirting from the left rear corner. Quick shifty with the torch shows this...

... no, not the fact that some git has left a red rubber band in my engine bay... it's split! It's the bendy flex pipe coming out of the intercooler eventually leading to the front turbo.

From a corresponding scuff on the inside of the clam it looks like it's been rubbing there.
Does anyone have a part number and best source for this please?

True... but my mystery misfire only happens on a trailing (or steady) throttle below 3-4000rpm. Accelerating / higher revs is smooth and (apparently) not lacking power.Is it not the case that the pressure at that bend will be +ve until the turbo spins up (hence the air blowing out at idle)? Could that not affect things elsewhere... when it's not on boost? You mean I can't justify the Pro Alloy kit as a necessary "repair"???

Hummm, I've just brought the Proalloy hard pipe kit and the garage is replacing those pipes, b

ks, got all excited on the Proalloy site and didn't give it a thought, I might have a spare set of flexi pipes going cheap

- *Don't actually do this as you could suck any sort of debris into the turbo!! Its just to try to illustrate that the only job of the flexi is to provide a snorkel for the front turbo so the filter can be more suitably placed.

No, just the past couple of weeks. Worst when cold but continues when "warm" - a quick sprint seems to cure it for a while. Just momentary losses of power.FWIW, the plugs I just removed had been in for about 4K - all looked normal and pretty much identical so I don't think it's a particular cylinder/coil.

Not sure what you mean? It seems to occur around 2.5-3K revs.I'll replace the split hose but after that I'm out of ideas so it'll probably be over to Skip to seek out the missing Mojo!

Have you had a dodgy lambda sensor recently? Or an air leak in the exhaust, or the pipe under the throttle body blow off? It's likely that the ECU could have learned a bad adaptive owing to a bad lambda reading. That can manifest itself as cough/hiccups at the speeds where it learnt the adaptive. It doesn't adapt at higher throttles and under boost, so those would still be normal.

Not that I'm aware of, although the exhaust is the original and certainly past its best cosmetically so may have sprung a leak somewhere. Are the lambda sensors easy to get at and is there a way to test them - or failing that are they cheap enough to just replace anyway?YellowShed said:

Thanks - that explanation makes some sense of the symptoms - I was thinking/hoping the split hose may have had that effect...
