Number plate scam

To all, seems people have been lifting details from classifieds, then making false insurance claims, so I think if anyone posts any photos, it would be a good idea to cover number plate as this seems to be a growing problem.

I've never been able to understand the reason for not publishing your reg number on the net :

a) It's visible to the entire world when you drive on the road.

b) Don't forget to remove yours in your PH profile.

Since changed my plate, but thanks for that, within the context of the thread, thats really clever.

The entire world, thats one big plate. Also a bit naive, for the scammers are looking to match cars, so if they are looking to duplicate the details of a car, where better to look than classifieds, thay can also gather personal details to convince the insurance company that you were involved in the accident where they are claiming tens of thousands in personnel injury.

If the claim is proved to be a 'non event' what happens to the scrots that instigated it?

I have a similar thing going through at the moment with the ex wifes car... happened in 2006 and there was no accident, no damage, no witnesses and I even took pictures of the cars at the time to show there was no damage even evident on either car.

Thrown out by the insurance company but its been taken to small claim court and is still going on costing the insurance company thousands which will be non recoverable.

Basically very stressful and costing insurance company loads with absolutelly no comeback when the claim is proved incorrect.

I dont get this ! ...so whats to srop someone just seeing your car on the road and saying that you crashed into them ? ...is the aded bit that they have some personal details from your advert ??
