It may be down to lack of talent.....

....or nerve, but I was a bit disappointed that at the recent 'Ring/Spa trip I wasn't able to corner anywhere near as fast as the GT3s when on track at Spa. Had thought that might be something the Nob would excel at! The car is a 3R with standard suspension on R888s.
So any thoughts as to what can be done - is it Nitrons or driving lessons that I need?
Cheers

I would have said, in the case of the ring it would be the fact that most of them are there all the time so its just that they know the track and are fearless. lol.
From what I have herd, the 888's go off rather quick and are not the best for track work? Set-up obviously helps, i.e nitrons and camber etc.
Dial in some tallent and your there
Bondy
P.S. I'm not expert but its just IMHO

What sort of problems where you having? to much understeer? or oversteer? So any thoughts as to what can be done - is it Nitrons or driving lessons that I need?

I seem to have excessive understeer, I was told that alot of them had un even camber settings so maybe worth checking on yours.
The way I found her handle was
Trying to carry to much speed into the corner will cause understeer which of course can be corrected with the throttle. if maybe you brake to early and then apply throttle of course you will get oversteer.
IMO the key to being quick in a nob is being smooth, slow in fast out. Sacrificing a little speed into the corner will give you a better drive out, and make use of the awesome power, so overall improves the lap times.
Think I just spent 10 min telling something we all know anyway

Thanks guys
Wasn't so much the Ring I was worried about as obviously local knowledge is a major factor.
Spa was more of a concern as there's more chance of learning the track and following a quicker car through on their line - even then I just wasn't as quick through the corners. Maybe it just shows the quality of the GT3!
PS Any suggestions on the best way to get a 3R set up for track?

Hi Andrew was pretty impressed with mine ,having a strong engine helps !! but alround it felt very good , i,m going have my std dampers upgraded to M400 spec as well a more aero mods which i think will help all round ,also had some driving instruction last year which also helped !!! keeping up with a GT2/3 is still alot to ask but you should be able to give them a scare :-)
By far the best way to improve speed round a race-track is to have lessons with a competent instructor. A standard 3R will go round Spa very quickly indeed - may not keep up with a well pedelled GT3 but should show a clean pair of heels to most other track-day cars. Improvements to suspension will also help but are not a substitute for learning the circuit with an instructor.
In my experience a well peddelled M400 will be quicker round Spa than a similarly driven GT3 RS (in the dry that is!)

What everyone else said - instruction, more track experience, more spring, better dampers, proper setup will all make a huge difference in lap times. Also, for our cars at the tracks we go to, the R888s work better with more air pressure than the stock settings. Following Toyo's guides for this tire is a good place to start...
Definately lack of talent .. I remember being in your car going round SPA ...
Only joking - you were going seriously quick and smooth. Still reckon you would have made the corner where we decided to go straight on - but I was your PAX so you probably took it easy.
What I did notice when going in the car with Dean was that he used more of the track.
We should organise a track day in the UK. I would be up for that - now I have seen what it is like. I won't be so intimidated.
