Potential Noble newbie
Discussion
Hi all,
I've made my mind up to sell my cobra replica and I'm looking for a replacement. My current thought process is stuck between a Noble and a GT40 replica. I obviously like the old school look of the GT40 being a cobra owner but I also love the usability of what a Noble would give me.
The cobra is putting out 430bhp and 470+lb/ft so I'm not looking at comprimising performance at all.
The question to you guys who have mod'ed your cars is how much would it cost me to upgrade an M12 3R to 400ish bhp including any transmission, cooling, breaking to cope with the extra power? I'd be looking at doing track days, Nurburgring etc so maybe sump mods would be needed too?
Might not be that relevant a question as I'm assuming the Noble will get the power down to the road much better than the cobra.
Any info greatly appreciated.

As a member of the GT40 owners club I can comment a little. GT40s IMHO look head and shoulders better than the Noble and if fitted with a good V8 sound better too.
However a lot of agencies (insurance, breakdown etc) class the GT40 reps as kit cars. That'll limit you with things like European breakdown cover and such. You can get round that but with the Noble there's no such issue.
Secondly most GT40's were individual builds. The car will be a one off. When you find it relies on an old Renault 30 part that just isn't available any more for worse a part that the builder made themselves, what do you do? Fine if you're happy CNCing up your own suspension parts for example, but if not...

Hello and welcome....
The M400 puts out around that number with just slightly bigger larger turbos, oil cooler and uprated internals (not really required but clearly nice to have). Many 3R owners have changed the turbos or increased the boost to get to those levels after a remap so relatively cheap - there is one in the classified now. Obviously you can increase the boost on the M400 to keep the differential.
Uprated intercoolers and exhausts make the job easier and are also a common upgrade path. The sump is probably the most critical as a difficult upgrade so need to ensure that any 3R comes with the optional track day sump (standard on the M400). You may also find a later model with the M400 gear linkage (improved) although most later variant came with a 6 speed box.
The M400 came with front anti-roll bars whereas earlier models did not unless specially ordered.
The brakes are already good but many upgrade to grooved discs and track pads.
The M400 (the last variant) came out of the factory already set up for track but the 3R can be relatively easy to upgrade if you buy the right starting point and that's your thing but you can also easily start with a M400 (although they are rarer and more expensive).
There are quite a few recent threads on the differences etc so worth reading around etc.

It all depends on what route you want to take.
400bhp / lb/ft is achievable with just a re-map as far as i'm aware.
But most people tend to go the
intercooler (pro alloy £700ish)
fuel pump wiring (fuel pump upgrade optional, standard is ok upto 400 bhp)(wiring £10, bigger pump £100)
exhaust (price ranges from local exhaust builders less than £1k upto the full roush system @ over £2k)
re-map (£500) route.
Once you start looking at much more power than this you need to look at strengthening gearbox, clutch, valve springs etc.

Assuming you buy a 3R with track day sump and 6sp and do the work yourself 3 grand could make that, but reliability thats depends, I've made my mind up to sell my cobra replica and I'm looking for a replacement. This was at SPA, the video is in a Noble running about 380 at that time and the blue one was 500. However as we were trying to make sure the cars were in the video it may skew it a bit. The GT40 was very very fast. About 2:30 in.
