Wiring woes again! Indicators and now brake lights!

Hi guys,

I've just been to the scrappy to change my indicator relay because it was buzzing rather than doing any kind of indicating. Swapped the realy, it's still doing it.

I've checked the fuse, it's not blown, it doesn't appear to be shorting out. What do I check next?

Then, pulled into work about 20 mins ago and someone told me I have no brake lights either!

Are these related?

Anyone know what's going on?

Possibly a bad earth. Check all your bulbs and their seatings for corrosion.

all bulbs still fine... as are multiplugs. Is there a specific earth for brake and indicator lights?

Confirmed that brake lights are kaput... car now illegal to drive.

Mate check inside on the rear bulb holder as these can rust badly and short out....check any earth round the rear wiring,get hold of the u.s manual if you can.

surely the bulb wouldn't still work though if that were the case?

In that case.....drive it like you stole it....sorry that doesn't help much

The brake lights and indicators are both routed through the same fuse as far as I remember and if this connection is dirty or corroded as they usually do get then this might be your problem, check the manual as I dont have mine to hand and replace the fuse and clean the contacts.

Hi... fuse is all fine, have just had rear light clusters off. Right hand cluster contacts were/are corroded, have cleaned them up as best I could but didn't make a difference.

I don't have a multimeter at the moment so I can't check if any current is getting to the fuse even, but there doesn't seem to be excessive corrosion on the terminals or fuse.

No idea what to do next, but i'm not sure how i'm going to get to work tomorrow

I've called the RAC. This should be fun, the guy in the call centre said "a what M12?"

Fixed for now, it's the fuse box again! This time number 3 relay (ignition) wasn't getting a decent connection due to corrosion, and was spazzing out as a result.

Time for a new fusebox methinks.
