check oil level

Hi guys,

Went to check the oil... Appears the car has no dipstick

Anyone know what type I need? One off a mondeo st220?

Just trying to fill the car with oil after service and have no way to measure it!

Would think it's a STD ford unit , normaly located by the front manifold , is the tube there ??

Seem to remember the plastic collar can melt and get stuck in the hole when you pull the dip stick out. With care you may be able to extract it using a wood screw and a pair of pliers.

Yeah, I seem to remember this happening to a couple of people before, the end broke off so they extracted it with a screw

Think they are longer than a standard unit if you have a track day sump fitted. (think they have a bit joined on at the top.)

I will check this out.

I suppose my main issue is now that i dunno if I have a track day sump or not, so dunno if a standard ford dipstick will do.

The Machanic thats working on the car says, it is shallow, in like a triangle shape. Says it looks like a home made job. I think this is the track day sump but can anyone confirm this?

Very frustrating as the car is ready waiting to go, but obv i not gonna touch it unsure of the oil level

Not sure I see the logic in fitting a TDS then dropping the oil level in the sump ?

What engine do you have ?

Must admit, I was only recalling another thread, but can't find it now. I guess it is possible that they changed the pickup, or the routing of the stick into the sump, but don't have any evidence either way.
If I get it out later to clean, I'll measure it so you have something to check against.

The oil pickup is lengthened for the deeper sump, but the dipstick stays stock. After all, the dipstick measures the level of the oil beneath the crank - the depth of the sump really doesn't matter...

This may not help until you have one in front of you but have just measured mine (M400 so 3l) and total length from shoulder i.e. where the top of tube is; 587mm, low level mark 557, high level mark 537.

Can anyone confirm to me if this sounds like i have a TDS? if so can they then confirm how much oil roughly a noble with a TDS requires?

Last time I replaced mine on my 2.5 I was told it was from the Ford Cougar.

I think that the TDS give away is a hole in your undertray with the sump sticking through it. Therefore no hole - no TDS?

I getting my mechanic to take a photo when she up on the ramp. Will post it here if he sends me it. Prob be the best way to confirm - but i pretty sure mine has a hole, with the flat/shallow bit of the sump coming accross it.

If you can see the sump from under the car with out taking off the undertray ie the undertray is cut around the sump then its a track day sump. And it is a triangle shape that you will be looking at. The sump doesnt hang down below the undertray but finishes level which is why the under tray has to be cut around it.
