One for thatphilbrettguy ( nice to meet you at the Le Mans Classic, by the way) - and others---

Any advice on how to prep the car for maximum straight line top speed at W & W, which is being held on the runway at Dunsfold (the Top Gear track) - so a good long run.

The rear wing must create a lot of drag, so is it worth removing it? What effect would that have on stability, bearing in mind it is a straight run and no corners to worry about?.
What about the front splitter? Does it do anything, and would removing it help or hinder straight line speed?

Also, any idea what top speed to expect with a standard GT03 ?

I'm not talking about permanent mods or tuning.

Thanks

Chris ( formerly Bittercars)

Hi Chris! See you worked out the name change then smile

Taking the splitter off does nothing.
Rear wing might give you 1 or 2 mph but probably not and does make the car a little unstable under brakes over 120mph.
DO NOT fold the standard wing mirrors in. The air gets behind the glass and pops it out. Just ask Goodlife!
Best thing is to leave the cam open until the last minute so the engine is as cool as you dare when you run. You loose more from heat sapping the BHP then anything else I bet.

Makes little of no difference. Never run a Noble flat out on low fuel!

I wonder how much weight I can lose in 3 weeks? I don't think being a fat b-st-rd will hold water as an excuse if I get beaten by some mates in their GT40's.
They claim they were clocked at 150 and 155 last year. Am I likely to get anywhere near that in a standard GTO 3 ?

Well, I managed 148 - video of my sat nav as proof! Speedo said nearer 160.

Still acceleating when I had to start slowing down.

I was dissapointed not to break the 150 barrier, but is 148 reasonable?

I have managed 152 on the GPS, not sure how long this was over but not that far. I was 500 rpm away from 6000rpm (my may power is at 5750). that was with about 330bhp on a 2.5

Mine gets to 175 in 3/4 mile, however it takes a lot of horse power to make a Noble do that, 150 ish isn't that bad.

That's why I asked how long it was. Mine did 160 at Vmax ( 1st time, with 330 horses ), 166 the second time ( 370 horses ). The straight is 1.6 miles but it's as fast as it will go way before the end, there is no way it will go any faster.

At 166 my GPS on my phone said 165 and the speedo was pretty much the same, by as I recall, the needle does tend to jump about a bit at that speed. Oh, and the front splitter came off at that speed !

The Dunsfold website says the runway is 1880 metres i.e about 1.2 miles.

We certainly didn't use all of that though, as the start line was nowhere near the end of the runway and the chequer boards warning it was time to start slowing down were about 2/3rds of the way along the bit we used, so I'd guess the acceleration zone was around 3/4 of a mile.

I take it they let your retrieve it before more runs :-)
How did it fair ? I assume it was run over by all 4 wheels ?

It broke in two places, the middle bit coming away so just leaving two snapped off end bits on the car. It made a hell of a bang !

I took it on several more runs after that, it made not one jot of difference, either to top speed or handling.
