M12 v Nissan GTR
Discussion
Hi All,
Went out with my mate at the weekend, me driving my GTO 2.5 & my mate with a recently aquired Nissan GTR.
On normal A roads & with light traffic, there was nothing in the acceleration between us!!
ok, i admit i lose ground when changing gear, but we were both genuinely surprised by the similar performance.
We tried a drag race (on a private road of course) & again using 2500rpm i was able to keep neck & neck with the big Datsun (not in launch mode)& again lost a little ground when changing gear (pesky autobox in the Datsun).
Is this to be expected?
Once i get my dodgy relay replaced next week, the car will be on the rollers at West Tuning for a power run.

Lightly modded (ie. just a remap) GTR would be quicker than a standard Nob for sure.
However, I actually think on most B roads the Noble might well be better. The suspension in the Nob is waaaaay better, the GTR is super bouncey, just not enough damping. Been commuting all week in the Nob and it feels so much smoother.

That's interseting to know Elliott. I find the nob good on bumpy roads but just assumed anything with electronic and 4 wheel drive would be easier to handle on the bumps. Does the adjustable suspension help the situation much? However, I actually think on most B roads the Noble might well be better. My tweaked m400 was a nice bit quicker than a standard GTR. Even allowing for the stick and some traction problems. I still find it shocking that the GTR's are so quick with that much weight to carry about.
I had the pleasure of a 600bhp GTR version for the weekend down in Dorset around roads I know very well and have extensively driven in the Noble.
They are probably well matched, but the GTR is just soooooo easy to drive fast, and requires little involvement especially coming out of corners.
Which one is better? Depends on what you want to be honest, but the GTR is a car that I feel may well "call" me soon...
In the meantime I'll continue to get it out of the car club once I've exhausted the other new toys

It helps a bit, but its the rebound damping that needs more damping and the adjustable bit is the compression I presume. I actually find its better in race mode if it gets bumpy, although that can make it a bit skitish.Don't get me wrong, the GTR is awesome. And its only bad B roads where there is an issue.
It’s interesting what you are all saying. After dare I say nearly two years in storage (Heated by the way) my M400 has just gone to be pampered, £2K's worth of pampering. Now I am considering doing a lot of mods to it, that will mean I will be on my third intercooler, but is it worth it. I took delivery of a new GTR last December and I have resisted in doing any mods to it. What would £5K's worth of mods get me on the GTR. Where would you put your pennies? Could sell them both and buy a Prius!!!

Mods on the GTR...First thing is the Y-Pipe, for a performance increase go for a cat delete version. I have the GTC Titan Ti version. £700
Then really it remap time. 90% of GTRs seem to be tuned with the Cobb Accessport, this is effectively a "eTune". The device monitors everything on the car, you email the logs to the tuner, they send back a tune specific to your car. It goes back and forth like that until everyones happy. Again I got mine from GTC. £750 Cobb AP + £250 Custom Tune.
Then it's the full exhaust system. Again I went for the GTC Titan Ti system. It's lighter and offers performance increases. £1750
The final easy and best bang for buck mod would be the cat delete downpipes, making the car completely decatted. £550
I did mine in stages, Y-Pipe first (relatively warrenty friendly), then when I got the full system I had to have a remap at that point. I have my downpipes here, but they are not fitted yet. Should be going in next weekend.

The difference is awesome. Night and day. With the above you would be looking at around 600Bhp, depending on where your standard car starts. A lot of recent GTRs have been showing 500ish Bhp off the shelf.
After the above the amount of return for money spent starts to deminish. Next steps would be intakes and injectors... and maybe gearbox strengthening!!
Check out http://www.gtc-r.com/ and speak to Ben Linney.

Where are you based? Would be happy to meet you in the GTR, so you could see the differences back to back with your car.

I think we might need a hot line to the GTR Forum, appolgies Nobleites. However to keep the GTR stuff brief. I know about the Miltec Y pipe and the Cobb AP. That’s the first path that the EVO mag GTR went down. I know this might sound hypocritical but I don’t want to de-cat the car. On other cars I have installed racing cats but to replace the cats on a GTR would seriously deplete the world’s recourse of precious metals not to mention my pocket. I am based in the Watford area. Noble residing in Arkley after service and repairs to bring it up to spec and waiting for my decision as to whether to mod it.
Hi All.
My Nob was 426 bhp and in the dry and in daytime at least as quick as the GTR up to, say 100 mph. After that the GTR will drive away from it.
As for comfort, precision, enjoyment go for a Noble..
Dry feet, luggage, awesome all weather performance the GTR.
Solution, both!
Must work harder!

Hi Nick, didn't know you now had a GTR, how's it treated you? I had started looking but then decided against as i may return to the rear wheel drive clan.
Hope you are well mate

Hi Jim, Hope you are well mate
Jim
Very well thanks. Will be returning to something that you have to actually drive soon.
The GTR's astonishing but not involving enough off track/at reasonable speeds.
Mike - that's the ideal solution! May follow you soon. Catch up for a beer?
