Hi All,

I have a nice new exhaust sitting on the living room floor, Roush no longer do fitting and Im a fair distance from places that I would like to fit it.
On the face of it it doesn't look that difficult to do it myself, Has anyone fitted their own and if so are there any hints and tips or things I should look for when doing it.

Cheers

Mark

loose fit at all first so you can position it where it best fits, also do the heat wrapping before you start.

Your biggest problem is getting the old one off. Save yourself a few bruised knuckles and start the job with a grinder on the exhaust bolts .totally remove the rear clam. This makes the job a lot easier.

Have you uprated the fuel pump and wiring? You'll also require a re-map when it's fitted.

Old one off took a whole day had to grind every bolt except 2, have read posts saying dont really need turbo outlet gaskets but decided to get some from Nissan who have let me down so cant get those till tomorrow so wont be fitting the new one till next week now.

Got the exhaust delivered from pipercams, I notice the fitting kit doesn't have new nuts for the turbo can't believe that for the money I paid.

I am waiting for a loom to arrive to do the fuel pump upgrade, and have the intercooler and hardpipe kit along with header and breather tank arriving in the next few days, new plugs and an appoiontment with yellowshed sorted for when its all fitted.

Until then I will be working a lot of overtime to pay for it allsmile

Do need a new fuel pump or just upgrade wiring to OE? From my searching on here all I can find about the uprated pump is people moaning about the buzzing noise from itsmile
If I can get away with it I would rather have a quiet one

Depends on your plans for a re-map and more power.
To get above about 400 bhp safely will require a better pump. Even for less bhp, it's a good idea to keep a close watch on AFRs through the rev range while on the dyno to avoid getting into a lean burn condition due to a lack of fuel.

Just needs mounting on quality soft silicone anti-vibration mounts and wrapped in a Foam jacket.

Mine too, very frustrating! If it's not raining then I'll be sorting mine tomorrow with all new gaskets. I bought some exhaust nuts designed not to come un-done but we'll see. I've just booked a trackday at donington for next week so that should be a pretty good test to see if they work or not.

Well, I've spent all day on the thing and it's still not back together, all thanks to a broken stud in the front turbo. I've fitted stainless manifold studs and washers with copper coated exhaust nuts, I'm sure there's better out there but they can't be any worse than what was on there. The size is M8, I bought the washers from good old screwfix and the other stuff off ebay.

Best bet for mechanically locking high temperature nuts are aerospace K nuts. Merlin Motorsport can provide them in small quantities, but they aren't cheap!

New Exhaust fitted, I fitted it all loose but even using up all the movement it is still a little high on the right side tail pipe and seems to be a bit to the left of the car.
It looks like the flex joints are a bit stiff especially the ceramic coated one, do these ease up with a few temp cycles? failing this I can slot the tail pipe to back box holes to enable it to angle down a bit, any ideas??

New fuel pump on its way and once i get the loom Ive ordered for it I will fit it, any tips for doing this?

Many thanks to everyone who has given me help so far.

Cheers
Mark

I just thought I'd let you know that the nuts I used worked great, after fitting all new nuts, and stainless studs where possible along with new exhaust gaskets I dont have any blows at all for the first time in two years of ownership! It may have taken me all day and a few bleeding knuckles but it was well worth it, I gave the car an oil change at the weekend and checked all the nuts to see if they had worked loose but so far it all seems fine. Yipee! smile
