As many have found, the search facility appears to be down so apologies for bringing this up again. My Noble has decided to start smoking. This only seems to be on start up. Noticed the smell of smoke last run out when I pulled into a garage to fill up with fuel. Sun was out and I was home (rarity these days) in time to take the car out and give a quick clean. On start up the car was smoking, badly, seems more from front bank, but both seem to smoke. Is this my trusty turbo seals or something far more horrid? Power seems to be about the same.

Just a guess but valve guide seals tend to make engines smoke on start up as if they are not used often enough they get dry/wooden and oil drips down the valve stem into the engine. It usualy burns off very quickly and when running shows no more smoking. This is not a huge cost to repair.

I suspect its exactly what you're thinking it is....

... I'd buy a pair of turbos if it was me. Don't dispair though, there are people on here who have upgraded so there's quite a few 2nd hand/rebuilt T25s laying around in people's garages.

Just had my 25s done. £1100. This included new housings, 360 bearings and stronger actuators.

T28's, what am I going to get from them? Looking at upgrading on the Noble ownership basis of when it breaks, upgrade amd try to make it better. I've just replaced my acuators (0.3 bar), will these need to be upgraded as well?? Is it another trip to YellowShed???

Sorry, bit late, but most likely turbo. They do it all the time (generally the front one that cooks itself). If it's not that, then probably valve stems, but that's a matter of preference because if you use the car it won't happen.

My Quattro's being doing the start up thing for around 6 years but is fine. As I rarely run it, I just live with it.

I went through this, it depends on what you want from the car 400bhp at the wheels should be fine with the 25's. if you use 28's then the spool up will be slower. So as i said it depends on what you want?

yep you'd need a remap for sure and the turbos come with actuators usually, might know of pair of newly rebuilt T28 turbos for sale!

I did what a few on there have been doing for some time and just drove it!! On start up, no smoke, once the exhaust system got hot, then it smoked. Once the oil was burn't off all was ok. Took it out for a longer drive a few hours later and it was fine.

Wondering if me buggering about with the dump valve had anything to do with it, it was leaking and so stripped it down and slightly stretched the spring. I've since stripped and rather than using clear grease, (spray type) that goes sticky I’ve gone for good old Vaseline.

The dump valve is sounding a lot better smile

Mine only seems to smoke occasionally if I've been sitting in traffic for a while. It stops smoking as soon as you start moving again. I'll probably get both turbos replaced shortly even though its only one playing up.
