Hi all, been offered a 2003 3r by a friend which has only done 15k, car looks mint with new tyres, track day sump but only 5 speed box and no LSD, only problem is it was cat d at 6 months old, there is full report from noble who repaired the car saying no chassis damage only cosmetic to front wing and door. Also no real service history as he is in the trade. What do you think is a honest value

But it was only 6 months old so that doesn't seem to add up to a Cat D? There's the issue I'd say. No idea on the value to be honest but unless you're keeping it forever or racing it I'd say no thanks.The car seems to have all the mods done ie fuel pump, fans, bov, stainless catch tank and Gaz who is selling the car has been on this forum for the past 4 years seems to know his stuff regarding the car. Is the 5 speed really that bad and wouldn't a problem have occurred in the past 7 years? As for the cat d the car had a front end shunt in the first year and was reterned to noble for repair (front clam, wing, door and wheel hub) the car drives fantastic and I don't doubt anything he tells me. I have come from owning a Cerbera so know how these thing can run away cost wise.

The Short Version...
Don’t buy it because of the open diff and because of the trouble you will have selling it.
The Long Version...
To try and take a quick stab at the value; the car is probably worth about £25,000 without the Cat D status. A quick ‘Googled’ consensus seems to be that the Cat D issue will reduce a cars value by approx 30-40%. However (as F.C. says) the open diff is a failure waiting to happen and that will cost approx £3,250 to fix, so you should factor that into what you are prepared to pay.
Ultimately, the car is worth what someone is prepared to pay for it. I wouldn’t be prepared to pay more than about £13k for it. Someone that doesn’t know about the open diff issue may be prepared to pay around £16-17k, but they will get a £3k bill one day (do not kid yourself on this point).
I thought the 5 speed box was normally only an issue if you want to increase power - sure someone will correct me if otherwise???
The market for Nobles is fairly limited, so trying to sell a previous insurance write off will be very difficult. When the honeymoon is over and you decide to move it on, you’ll be stuck with it.
Regardless of determining a value, I wouldn’t buy it because of the resale problem alone.
