Noble ecu tool

Hi guys,

I have heard a few people talk about a Noble ECU tool on the Forum.

Can anyone tell me...
1. How do you go about getting it?
2. Is it hardware or just software porgram that needs installed on ur laptop?
3. Do you connect to the computer using the port in the engine (behind drivers seat kinda down near alternator)
4. Is it a costly item

Go to the owners section of the forum on noble parts, then there is a thread on download for the ecu software. I havnt got reading it all myself but u will need a connection from the noble to a com port. Is there any special cable required that will allow it to run on a laptop with no com port?

People have talked about using usb to com port adapters in the past, but seems some work better than others. Also people have cautioned against using any old comm cable (something about an additional resistor). From memory this is the cable diagram:

Or just buy the cable of the site which is what I did.
(make sure you check this is the correct ECU as I have done this from memory rather than checking.
edit - Just noticed it says on the same site:

"We normally use a Targus or Belkin for our Dell computers, but this doesn't mean to say that either of these will be suitable for yours. It appears to be that each computer seems to be fussy & you will need to find a converter that suits your own brand."

I bought a serial usb adapter from maplin and it works ok. You need to ensure that the adapter and the software are using the same com port , usually 3. The additional cable length does sometimes seem to cause a problem for the software to see the ecu. In options there is a test com port section. Keep running this until it finds the ecu and bobs your aunty. Word of warning. If like me your not competant in mapping do not bugger about with it. Just watch the pretty numbers whizzing around and try to understand what it all means.
