Electric shock
Discussion
I used to argue that you can't get a shock from 12 volts ... until my car zapped me good. I had one hand on a length of braided stainless hose temporarily hooked to the fuel rail to drain the tank (my connection to the negative battery terminal). I had an "alligator clip" (don't know if there is a different UK term) in the other hand that I clipped onto a post connected to the positive battery terminal. Connecting the alligator clip to the post caused the fuel pump to run and thus drain the fuel tank.
The hand holding the braided stainless hose was damp with gasoline that dribbled out when I removed the cap on the fuel rail. As soon as the other hand put the clip on the 12 volt post, ZAPPP!!!! *Major* shock, right across the chest, one arm to the other. Beyond being shocked by the shock, I was shocked because I would have bet money that such a shock was not possible with 12 volts.
So now I have to spread the word of my personal experience.
BTW, I have a master's degree in electrical engineering, but that certainly doesn't mean I can't be ignorant enough to give myself a shock.
