Whining noise and it ain't the wife

I am getting a whining noise when turning corners and it makes a loud whining noise if stationary and the steering lock is put full on
I am assuming it is power steering pump
How difficult are they to change and does anyone have part numbers

Hi mate pump is easy to change , just undo the bolts and it lifts out , could try changing the fluid first

Mine does that at parking speed on full lock. IIRC, my Esprits used to make the same noise so I have always assumed it's a case of TADTS.

Thanks for the suggestions, it only really became noticable yesterday , I will check those couple of bits today and hopefully its fairly simple

if it continues after fluid is topped up you may have to purge the system, the quick way is to put steering on full lock and then rev the car up to 5000rpm, keep checking and topping up the ATF fluid and skimming off the froth until the noise goes away.

OK, went to Halfords and there was quite a knowledgeable chap in there.

I see from the owners manual that the recommended is Shell Donax TA.
All they had was D1 D11 and D111

Are these any good or should I get the Shell

where did it go mate ?? fluid level should be stable i,m guessing you have a leak somewhere ,check front cooler mine had a leak and i had to change it !!

Rev the car to 5000? Not a wise thing to free-rev a motor that high without load. To bleed the system, all you have to do is start the car, and at idle, turn the steering wheel lock-to-lock a few times. Top up the fluid as needed. Do this a couple of times, or until any noise in the middle of travel is gone - when you're pressing against the lock, you'll always hear a little noise as the pressure relief valve opens.
