...or has anyone else tried the new P Zero Trofeos?

http://www.silverlinewheels-tyres.com/downloads/PZ...

I need a couple of rear tires, but the P Zero Corsas are becoming as rare as hens teeth and if I can't get hold of any it will mean replacing all 4 corners weeping I can't quite see the new tires being cheap (or even vaguely reasonable for that matter)
Other option I suppose would be the R888s.

Rob I need a set of 4 P Zeros for road use, maybe we could get a little off for 2 full sets. Im trying to track some down myself. Not heard any reports on the Trofeos but if they are good would be interested.

Hi Rob. I use the 888's and they have served me well. Perhap the Toyo R1R's are worth a shout too??? i was thinking of trying these when my current set of 888's are ruined.

If they're claiming high levels of grip in the wet then generally the side walls will be softer and therefore compromise dry handling.

Stiffer side wall = more precise handling dry

Softer side wall = more forgiving in the wet

and thats before discussing compound and tread pattern!

Hi F.C. Im no tyre expert thats for sure, but i see what you are getting at reg the side walls. Perhaps the high levels of grip they talk of in the wet are compared to other track day tyres?? I doubt they would out perform high end road tyres in the wet? here are some stats for the tyre.

The guy at Page and whoever warned me that my car would literaly destroy the R1R's he said that the tread blocks will not suit high power cars.

I had Pirelli rossos on .... fitted the R1R s in time for Ash's do in Yorkshire ..they didnt suffer any wear but were beginning to go off after 3 short laps . I think the bit on the soft side for track use but great on the road .

This is a difficult subject to cover, on a 3R the suspension is a lot softer and the combination may suit, On an M400 the suspension is stiffer and so may be less suited.
IMO if you use softer walled tyres (on road) on an M400 you are compromising the original poise and handling, we all know Pirelli Corsas are pants in the wet, but they are fantastic on dry roads (as long as temperature is >10 Degrees ish). Corsas do seem a little too easy to overheat and blister for serious track work though.
As Adrian points out the block pattern on R1R's doesn't help with high power cars, again probably due to high block movement (overheating) and softer compound, (better for low-er powered cars and wet roads).
You could go mad working out all of the tread, compound, wall stiffness permutations.
Tire technology is changing all the time, someone has to take a chance on what rubber to use next!

Nigel Beat me to it, good on road (for him) not so for track.

For me it's about M400 and track use, so I'm not really looking for a 'compromise' tire. If the track is wet I stick on a set of Eagle F1s.
I'm waiting to hear back about availability of the Corsas, but if I can't get hold of them (as I suspect)it'll be a toss up between the R888's which alot of folk have tried and like, and the new Corsa replacement, the Trofeo, which it seems no-one has yet tried. As these are very consumable items, cost will also play a part in the decision.

My brother has Corsas on his ferrari and swears by them ( he's not too worried if it rains , he just tiptoes home ) . The problem with picking a tyre is deciding what you are using it for , if you can dedicate soley for track use , buy a racing slick and have done with it ! (they would be much better than any road tyre ) and lap times (if your suspension can live up to it ) will nail any other tyre previously mentioned (and they will last better )

Trouble is you can't then drive to and from the circuit! Also a lot of track-day organisers/circuits mandate that full roll-cages are a requirement for cars running slicks. Despite a few metal bars in the Noble, these don't actually constitute a full cage.
I'm also a great fan of the Corsa which is why I'm trying to get hold of some!
