A little help required please

when starting my 2.5, the starter motor sounds like its in overdrive, ticking away almost double the normal speed. after rolling start the revs where very temperamental!

once i was home (with a warm engine) it started fine! im waiting for it to cool down before going out to see how it starts.

battery and alternator are charging (13v when running)

any advice or guidence would be great thanks!

It started ok last night, but I have heard this ticking occasionally when starting. think it might be the starter motor or prehaps a sensor.

any help or pointers would be great

Does the noise disappear immediately the engine fires? If so, it does sound like the starter motor. Although if the starter motor works fine I'd be inclined to leave if for the moment. They are a replacement item rather than a fixable item. If the noise continues for a bit after the engine fires it could just be the alternator belt ticking.

turned out to be the battery

was upto 13v after a good run out, but whilst the starter motor was working it dropped to 5v! it had no chance starting.
