Help!

Long story, please bare with me. Car failed MOT a month ago due to emissions. (see previous thread). Got MOT by skin of teeth but decided new exhaust was required. Did a bit of shopping around but due to living in North of Scortland decided to get local garage (no names but they specialise in SS exhausts) to make me a custon SS one (they had a Noble in at the time which had one on it - looked OK so decided this was the easiest way forward)....isn't hindsight a great thing!!

Agreed a price for a freeflow system with 2 FIA 200 CATs. Exhaust was completed on Friday, but for some reason they only fitted one large CAT and they have left some of the original pipework. The configuration of the pipework isn't as expected (but they say it improves the flow etc etc) neither is the amount of original pipework that has been left but the real issue is that the car is now seriously over boosting.

My Noble (2002 M12 GTO) is very standard and prevously only hit 0.7 boost but is now seeing 1.2.

So...leaving perhaps the quality of the actual exhaust workmanship to one side. Does the car simply need re-mapped (and is this usual after changing the exhaust) or is the exhaust going to cause me some serious problems?

As I am sure you will sense, I am far from technical, but would greatly appreciate some advice/expalanation before I go into a potential dispute.

many thanks.......

Equally not technical, but after I fitted my Rousch system, it was essential to have a remap. The car ran aweful until then. After, it developed 380BHP. Huge improvement. GTO3.

If you are not happy with the exhaust that was produced for you, then I hope you have not paid for it yet.

You cant expect to fit a different exhaust without a remap

of course this presupposes that there was nothing wrong with the old exhaust system including the cats.

The std exhaust is a poor design with a Y piece that causes all sorts of issues ,the std cats are also prone to problems which can effect boost ect , i doubt that changing the exhaust would cause massive overboosting but its no doubt the new exhaust has freed up the airflow ,wonder if they have knocked of a pipe ect , i have also heard a few people seeing increase boost levels as the weather cools down but you need to be very carefull as you could bugger it up big time .

i would contact Yellowshed to see what he advises . Tux

A higher peak boost and slightly quicker spool are likely after freeing up the system. I wouldn't expect that big a boost difference though. Maybe it's been plumbed back up wrong (easy to do)?
Send me as many pictures as you can of it and I'll give it a quick once over see if I can spot anything obvious?

I had a new system fitted last year without a remapp but I had it checked to make sure there was no issues , might be worth getting someone to give it the once over just to be on the safe side !!

I also had a new system fitted ( same as Tuxman's ) and an M400 fuel pump and drove for a few months with no problems. But as I was taking the car to VMax ( which is basically 1.5 - 2 miles with your foot to the floor ) the last thing I wanted was to run the engine lean.

So I had it remapped by Mr Yellowshed; and I can certainly say the car now drives much better ( and quicker ! ), but my point is that if you just change the exhaust and continue with normal road driving you should not see any/much difference, but if you take the car on a track, where it's being pushed much harder, then you should have it remampped.

Mike.
yes

the wategates are designed to open at a certain boost level and prevent overboosting, the pipework to them may have been tampered with

Had no issues when I had mine fitted albeit that mine was a 3ltr, it ran, if anything better.

same with me and I had a full system including CATS, but I think that what adrian means is that it can have a big effect on some cars and depends on the map that is in the car as there is some huge variations it seems.

sounds to me like something is broke or not fitted correctly.... is the boost solonoid plumbed in correctly?
