Hi guys

Dam couldn't get the car out today it was too wet here so i decided to

check the dip stick on a cold engine found the oil level to be half way up ( on the crosses).

Do i need to top up and if so how much of Shell Helix Ultra 5W 40 do i need to top it up with . Are they oil hungry engines ? ( 3R )

thanks for any help

Hi Stefano , good thinking today , roads are crap at the moment ...... Had a slide in the van :-) think it takes 1 litre from full to empty on the stick , best solution is little and often :-)

depends on your car and how you drive ...

Guess it depends on each individual engine , forged piston engines tend to use a bit more because of the bore clearences , but best to keep a milage record and check it once a week , mine has done 5k miles and had the st thrashed out of it and only used 1/2 a litre !!! But I know some that use that in a track day :-)

Top to bottom of the hashed area should be around 0.5l from memory, but just do a small (100ml) at a time, wait around a minute, and recheck level.
