Seems some interest in carbon covering, so I thought I would start a new thread. I have just popped over to http://www.garnishdip.co.uk/ All their items that they coat, first has to be dipped in a special bath. The dimensions of the bath are 2 meters long, 1 meter deep and 1 meter wide. They can do larger, but needs to be double dipped, this can leave a line, but almost undetectable.

Some pictures of the type of carbon finish, they also do a clear carbon effect that brings out the base colour of what you are covering, that looks very nice.

Urb, one for you, a dash ready to be dipped, due to it being foam they are worried about the water soak, Noble dash is molded glass fibre so wouldn't be a problem

They would be very keen on offering a group buy for any parts, so if there are a few who would like their rear wing coated etc etc let me know and I can ask what they could do smile

Andy, you would struggle to notice the difference,(second photo the darker is very good), other than cost!

I'm actually going the other way and colour coding my wing as the end plates are alreay carbon look and the supports will be black.

The car is Titanium and I'm going for the black and silver look so don't ant the whole wing black

Door mirror supports are something I want black but could do without the hassel of removing them.

not sure what else there is to dip other than side scoops?

I must admit that im not happy with my interior at the moment, just doesnt look fitting for a sports car and i though getting parts carbon fibre effect would give the interior more of a sporty feel, there is a company over here that do it also, funnily enough i was talking to a gut who had loads of bits done on his F430, wheels, wing mirrors, defuser etc.. and the quality looked spot on, so i am definately going to have a think about this one.

I was thinking about getting the dash done, but I am worried that as it is so reflective it will reflect onto the windscreen and cause me viewing problems.

I'd be interested in seeing photos of the dash they are about to dip.

Seriously...what? That looks awful!

If you can't have real carbon, don't try to fake it! Ridiculous. I'm a little worried about you lot. These are basically supercars, not "kitted up Saxos m8" - try excercising a bit of class!

You wouldn't see that crap on a Lotus or a Porsche. (You'll see it on a Focus ST / RS though, and it looks pants there too!)

Chappers,

I'm afraid I agree with you, though you could argue Noble started it with their choice of steering wheel.

Some of the other dipped finishes are very good, though burr walnut probably wouldn't suit the cars either. Each to their own!

Dom.

Indeed, they got lazy with the steering wheel (I will be when I get a spare bit of cash) and that's what people should be getting rid of, not adding to the fake gashness!

And why not? Please explain the point in sticking "carbon effect" tat on a car? All the other mods people seem to do cost thousands, not to mention the general upkeep. Why suddenly start sticking cheapo rubbish on the car just to save a few pennies?

a noble is not a porsche etc, it has as std fake carbon fibre and its major components are ford mondeo...

you ignored these facts when you bought the car then you call other people ridiculous and accusing them of fitting cheap tat etc.

hence my comment

So we're agreed it's cheap tat though?

Lots of low-volume manufacturers use parts from other cars, it just makes more sense that way. It doesn't take anything away from their percieved image. Cheap tat does though. (Actually i'm still yet to see if it's that cheap)

By the way, I also really dislike the 3M carbon wrap stuff, because that's just adding more weight AND it doesn't look like proper carbon because it's not lacquered (gel coated).

I would certainly not give up on putting more leather in the car for this coating nonsense. Massive step backward (well, as long as you can get them to stitch it in a straight line!).

Chappers, easy there. The first post was really to do with giving an option for those who's carbon fibre spoiler was starting to look a bit shabby. Carbon cover then gel coating it is a much cheaper option. For the front splitter, why fit a shaped live of black plastic when you could carbon wrap to match. Ferrari do replacement wing mirrors for the 430 set you back a couple of grand. Get them wrapped for a few hundred and almost impossible to tell the difference. It's all a matter of taste. Covering the dash would not be my thing, but it gives others the option.

Does it matter that it is fake or cheaper than the real thing?

If you were going to do it you would not be doing it for the weight saving nor the kudos, but simply for aesthetics.

You would just treat it as a finish, just like a colour. Why change the colour of your car? Because you like a colour and you think it is aesthetically pleasing. Why change to a carbon effect finish - because you may think it is more aesthetically pleasing than what is there at the moment.

I don't think there is anything wrong with that.
