Fidanza Aluminium Flywheel
Discussion
Who has this? what are your thoughts? should I get one or just get the standard flywheel lightened/balanced?
just been told that these alu flywheels arent great, in that the replacable friction surface wears out fast and problems with failing ring gear. Maybe this isnt the case with these but wanted to check. dont need any more hassle with bits wearing out.
Cheers

well I tried to order this item online but there website aint to great, it wont accept my card for some reason so may need to make an expensive call to yanksville, anyway i found an old thread where a few people seemed keen on them and one noble had been running two years on one without fault so sure it will do the trick.
I've been using the Fidanza flywheel for over 3 years without any problems, weighs approx half of a standard one. No issues with the replacable friction plate or the ring gear, only thing l would advise is to have small thin spacer ring made for were the flywheel bolts to the engine to stop the bolts digging into the aluminum
Very notiable difference in the car !

By a spacer ring/spacers do you mean just for between the head of the bolts and the flywheel?
Was it supplied with new bolts for fitting? if not where can i get?
If you still have the box/reciept could you confirm the part number is 186111 for the three litre? Its just our noble wiki page said the 2.5 and 3 were the same but on ultrarev.com the 2.5 shows as part 186251 and 3 as 186111.
Also what mirrors is that on your car?
cheers dude!

Linky to buy has some pics but it would be nice to see some on your car Kev, also a close up of how you fitted them.

Hi I don't have any specific pics & my car is away at the mo so can't take any.
The hardest part is removing the old ones, take off the inner door card then remove the old one (wait until you feel how heavy they are) I fitted the SPA ones over the same bolt holes & sealed with black silicone, you will need two blanknig grommets for the old adjuster holes.

Graham, called into work today & the correct part no is 186251 for the Fidanza 3.0L flywheel.
Hope that is what you have ordered ?
Kevin
There website says that part is for the 2.5l so i ordered the one for the 3.0l, part 186111. They were extremely unhelpful on the email when i asked about it, i emailed a few times asking if the part was right for my car etc and what difference there was between the two but only got a reply saying yes it will fit. If it doesn~t work i guess ill just have to send it back but ill be extremely pissed off.Hope that is what you have ordered ?
Kevin
Is your gearbox not the 5-speed box though... the only reason i can see them having two part numbers is that part 186251 is for the 5 speed which i think you have and the 186111 is for the 6-speed which I have. If im right i~ll be lucky, if im wrong ill be gutted and you~ll all get a laugh.

Graham, i can't say if 186111 will fit or not my understanding is that is for a 3.0L Mazda but as this is part of the Ford family perhaps it might. I can assure you that 186251 will fit perfectly & as important the AP Clutch will fit perfectly no matter if a standard one or uprated Helix version.
Yes mine is a 6-speed 3.0L.
Cheers

Graham, Cancel it as soon as possible. The 186111 will not fit ( Trust me )
These people were extremley un helpfull and unwilling to come to a satisfactory agreement to take mine back.
I ordered the same as you and it's now an expensive Fidanza Frisbee that gets launched around the garage from time to time giving me some satisfaction for the money I spent.
I eventually got to speak to Fidanza direct and they were helpfull in giving me the correct Pt No which I can not currently remember but I believe its the one that gto400 is quoting.
It's worth getting on to them A.S.A.P as I paid to have a priority shipment and it still took 8 days to get despatched.
I have an e-mail from the guy stating that the flywheel would fit my car but a deffo no no.
Next time I go to the states I'm going to take a slight detour to nail the f
king thing to his Desk.
Aaaaargh Wooooosah Woooosah.
Matty.

Balls!
They're website is crap and no they aren't helpful at all!
I've emailed the sales email address and the guy Ray who confirmed that wrong part would fit, asked them not to dispatch the item and change to the other part number. Also asked that if it had been dispatched to contact the shipping agent and get it returned and exchanged.
Is there any way i could get it returned to them if they refuse to do anything? ie get customs to return it to sender or something? Dont want a 250 quid frisbee like yourself!
Graham

I just hope that it has not been despatched yet and they can send the right one.
Dont know about the legals but if it has been sent you could maybe refuse delivery and then contact the c/card company as you know that they have sent the wrong goods, It doesn't stand you in good stead for getting them to send the correct one though.
The guy is an absolute t
t and would not help me out!Best of luck, Matty.
Sad to say the Fidanza experience is a common problem here on the left side of the Atlantic. I guess it's all about profit, and hiring a minimum wage guy off the street to answer the phone is one way to cut expenses. I run a moonlight* high performance niche car parts business and frequently have callers say how rare it is to get a car guy on the phone when calling with questions.
