Coolant Leak

Happy new year to all noble owners !

Can anyone help please.

Opened the rear clam and found there was hardly any coolant, well below minimun mark ! I have a leak as have noticed patches on the garage floor but can't seem to trace it . Had a quick look and upper hoses seemed dry ?
Any suggestions , thanks guys.

Is it still on the original radiator - the seams have been known to fail but difficult to spot unless you can pressure test. Also hoses down the centre tunnel can perish.

Have a good look under the front clam area - you can easily tell coolant from water by the taste

Hi david.mt i think it's the original radiator but not sure , the coolant seems to be leaking from the engine bay as there is a damp patch on the garage floor just underneath the engine . I will check underneath the front clam tomorrow .

will it be ok to start the car if i fill the coolant tank or is there a risk i might damage something ?

Will be fine as long as it is not a catostrophic leak and you keep topping it up until you find it. Mine was the same until I fit a nice shiney new radiator.

if the leak is coming from the rear does anyone know which pipes run under there and how difficult is it to get access ?

Hi Steph , how much coolant have you lost in how many days ?? were on the floor under the car is the damp patch ? have a good feel around all your hoses to see if you get any wet spots on your hsnds ,

the places i would look first are the blue alloy 4 way splitters where the turbo water pipes meet up and top of the back turbo were the hoses go into the turbo .

first thing to do is give all you jubilee clips a turn to make sure they are tight .

With this cold weather we've had the hoses don't contract as fast as the pipes there fitted to and can cause a leak, as Tuxman says make sure there niped up! Mine were leaking just needed 1/4 turn on jubilee clips.

had a good feel around but i have a feeling it's down under the engine ? Parked the car up beginning of december , so 4 weeks and lost most of coolant in the tank .......

luckily i opened rear clam just to have a check, as i was about to go for a quick drive. I will try and have another look soon .

Had the smallest of pin pricks on one of my bottom hoses that only showed up under presure. Was a few miles from home when I smelt it so had to get the AA out. Have to give them huge praise he struggled at the side of the road for about a hour to fix and then followed me part the way home. Have now replaced most with silicone so hope these will last. Hi Steph , nothing to bad ,im betting a slight leak from a hose somewhere , the ones to the turbo,s are pretty crappy ,they tend to crack where it connects to the turbo have a good look on the top of the bootm engine bay cover , what colour is the coolant ??

colour of coolant in tank is blue but when i looked underneath the car it seemed a bit green.

Are there hoses right underneath that you can't get to from above that carry the coolant ?

If i can't trace will need to get to a garage , are jetstream near london ?

Hi Steph , no pipes running under engine , they come out the center tunnel and then up towards the header tank , , who serviced it last ? Call them to find out what antifreeze was fitted in the coolant system , you need to get some , mix it 50/50 with water then use it to top up the system . As long as you keep an eye on levels you should be fine ,

Jack the car up onto axle stands and have a look through the triangular inspection hatch - my guess is that your leak is coming from the main hose that comes through the central tunnel and/or the front turbo. Because the open inspection hatch is there, coolant can leak directly onto the garage floor,as opposed to being trapped by the floor pan. The jubilee clips can all be nipped up through the inspection hole. If the hoses are perished (esp round the front turbo) replace with silicon hose and proper mikalor clips.

Found a leak on hose attached to blue splitter just below the coolant tank, just tightened jubilee clip .

Found another leak hose going into back turbo , that's more tricky to access and jubilee tightening clips are rusted . Can u get access if u take off large hose from air filter into turbo ?

I would suggest that after tightening the hoses you run the car up to full temp first to check if there are other leaks.
