rear lights

After seeing the lights that marcos woody had made and posted a pic of on the last thread i thought id have a go.
so this is what i got up to today;
First cut some holes in the lights and cut all the plastic out of the way on the back of the lights

next was to take a length of 103mm diameter ducting, cut in to smaller lengths then glue to a flat piece of plastic.
Next cut around the tube leaving cup shaped pieces of plastic
Then i had to cut a hole in the base of the cups , put the lights in the cups to gadge the depth, then glue in place

Then trim off excess plastic and put more glue in any gaps
now they are filled, sanded and ready for paint

so, the surface of the lights, are they filled or what have you done to make them smooth?

Are the out side lights pointing in the wrong direction?

They have a bit of filler but they dont need much really just a sand up to get rid of the writing that is stamped on and filler in the swage line that i wanted to lose

Standard mondeo ones

ok some are Hella mix and match and some are ultra bright.

Ah, ok. however I would assume the out side new light sticks out a bit on the outside or inboard on the inside?

Can you give details on what measurements you used for cutting lights and what did you use for the cutting?

The outer edge of the outside light is flush while the inner edge is recessed.
There is a swage line on the lights running across them, i marked two points along here for the centres of the holes and used a 103mm hole saw in a drill to cut them out.

Yeah cheers woody, seeing your lights really helped me to get off my arse and do a job that i had been thinking about doing for about two years. Just hope they end up looking as good as yours. They are primmed now but i cant decide between black or body coloured

Hi Steve.

I didn't have the problem choosing the colour as the Marcos is black.

IMHO if you want the Mondeo light housing shape to blend into the background and focus just on the afterburner lights, then body colour is the way to go.

With regards to spraying, I used rattle cans from Halfords. Plastic primer followed by Jet Black, rubbed down with
T-Cut then Autoglym Resin Polish. Worked a treat.
