Petrol

Hi guys

took the car out this afternoon to charge the battery , put some petrol in, (didn't over fill it) and the gauge was showing approx 3/4 full and then went for a gentle drive . Got back and i checked the plastic over fill tube underneath and it was wet with petrol, although it was not dripping . Have i got a prob or do they all do it.

And how accurate is the fuel gauge ?

Mine drips petrol as well and its been replaced...
Fuel gauge not accurate.
It is worth running to the empty mark then dropping a clean rod down the filler (like a dip stick)to the bottom of the tank and seeing how much is left.

thought so mate , so when it's down to a 1/4 on the gauge it might be more it might be less ? by the way any more news on disconnecting that siren !!!

is that plastic tube just an over spill for when you put too much petrol in . I read somewhere it perishes and stops petrol from coming out and goes into the cabin instead ? Just have to make sure no one is having a fag nearby !!!!!

Think most people find that when you get down to zero there is still an amount in there, siren is back on the car thankyou.

My rule when filling is to go slow and with the nozzel in as far as it will go. Once it trips the pump, don't be tempted to keep filling as it will expand with the heat and you will loose the extra fuel down the pipe and on the floor. I did this and fueled to what I thought was a safe "full", after a 25 mile trip stopped to meet some mates and noticed petrol running out from the over-flow pipe, quick release of the fuel cap stopped the flow. Since stoping fueling once the pump cuts out, this has'nt happened again.

Yes, but when fuelling, don't go by the gauge as it is inaccurate. Once the fuel pump has cut out with the nozzel fully inserted, that is the tank as full as you can take it. The tank will get hot and the fuel will expand, this is where the excess will be pushed out and you will see the sign of the wet pipe.

If you only had ¾ of a tank and the pipe was only wet and not dripping you may well find that it was just the warm fuel vapour venting to atmosphere then condensing and turning back to a liquid, without a rework to the whole system this is something that will happen, as the nobles have been doing it years its nothing to really worry about.

Thanks matt, checked it and it's as dry as a bone now
