only way to remove the gearbox without taking out the engine is to cut the chassis... plenty of people have made the bar that you cut out removable and there are threads on here about it.

Removal of the engine is not a quick job... around a day to remove and another day to install.

I done both ways and can't say it is much easier with the bar out. It was a pain in the a##e still all the wiggling and bashing the chassis on way out and in

We did this for a customer once as he requested it done this way, we wont ever do it again like that, doesnt save any real time and you should be checking the tracking and camber after its been apart to make sure its still where it sould be.

Ive done both ways, first one i cut cross brace to get gearbox out,can be done but its very hard to get at
bolts and a fair amount of engine lifting and crowbar work is involed, and after that having to fabricate
sleeving and inserts to put brace back.
Took engine out for my rebuild and if youve got a good engine lift and another bod this is the way to go.
Also gives you the chance to check other things eg turbos and exhaust manifolds as well as hoses
Hope all goes well

Knowledgeable mechanics can do the engine out thing in less than half the "official" time. I'm sure there are several who post here who will give you a very reasonable price. Don't cut the chassis (It's just wrong!).

i read another thread on this and someone had his mate take out his gear box in 90 minutes cutting the strut, so that goes agianst everything here.
