Engine out time, what else should i do while its out??
Discussion
as title says im just about to take my engine out so i can put an uprated box on. while its out im going to give the engine a paint, send turbo's off for a refub, get new valve springs fitted and boost control. what other tuning mods are there???? as im really after a remap an more power when its all done.
Cheers

Are you upgrading clutch and make sure you change the slave cylinder.

you might want to do the cams whilst the engine is out
my advice is to
get gearbox shot peened
quaife ATB
consider fitting bigger 3.0 turbo's
remap
fuel pump
do you have the mbe ecu ?
you could make 380 / 400 hp with those bits
gadge i thought 3.0 and 2.5l had same turbo's??my advice is to

Ive got a bosh 44, gearbox and clutch are good to go, Quaife LSD,
What is done to the cams??
edited to add ive got the OMEX 750 i think.

Valve springs are mountune , I have a company that can modify the STD sump to TDS status , best man to speak to is Bondy as Andy says he's the 2.5 expert !!
Valve springs are cheaper from noble motorsport. Here is a question: if he is removing the sump then couldn't he change the big end bearings (also from Noble motorsport)?
Bearings: Big End Clevite part No CB-1772 P

Bondy whats the benifit of changing the bearings ? is that because they are a weak link? Here is a question: if he is removing the sump then couldn't he change the big end bearings (also from Noble motorsport)?

I believe Noble motorport can also source and fit you a track day sump.
I also did not realise the 2.5 had smaller turbos, there only the T25's on the 3.0l so you definately will not get any noticable lag, they are pretty small turbos.
While the engine is out
Drop the fuel tank and modify/reposition the outlet to reduce the length of pipe.
Recondition all the chassis, i.e. remove any flaky paint, rub down and repaint, you may also want to consider filling with waxoil.
Heat shield the underside of the intercooler box
Check all heat shielding and sound insulation on the bulkhead as it tends to start coming unstuck over time.
Replace all coolant hoses that have gone hard, spongy or cracked, bend them to check if they are ok, also check the oil pipes to the turbos as they can also go spongy.
Upgrade fuel pump and associated wiring.
Upgrade to MBE ECU before remap( that is if you still have MM ECU)

The upgraded ones are much much stronger and if you can remove the crank the change the main bearings also.cheers
Steve.
If you do run a bit more boost and maybe rev a bit more as the upgraded spring will allow you to, then your engine will be much stronger.
If you can aslo replace the head bolts to ARP ones (not cheap).
This way the only week link left is the pistons them self.
Can anyone answer if he can remove the crank with the engine in and not removing the head?
Fuel tank is a good one and have you done the floor reseal mod and tunnel mod?
We did a group buy of the whole coolant pipe kit in silicone and you may well get the same discount if you speak to him.

Well I've phoned noble motorsport today and got myself some valve springs orderd but they seem to think the big end bearings are not problematic.
steve
Maybe not but the upgraded ones offer so much more protection. My engine was a complete build so I upgraded the lot to make it as strong as possible
steve

The whole bearing set inc maon bearings was 145 in vat so if you can do it and have the time I think its worth it. See what others think

Thanks bondy, i think ill get someone to look at the condition of my bearing and upgrade if they look a bit suspect.
