Hi guys
Have had my car in for some repair work (cosmetic)new rear clam spoiler and diffuser. Now the car has been off the road since nov 7th 2010.Here is how the story goes.Car transported to my mechanic i use sitting in his yard for a week b4 transported to his friend who runs his own body shop.Work not commenced on car till early part dec.
Was hoping to get back by xmas but no go but was told be ready by early part of jan.Well that passes i ask him how much longer he says it takes time because its not run of the mill type of car.Well gets to end of Jan still still no go.So now we get into feb i ask him when it will be ready he says should be in 2 weeks time.
That comes and goes i call him he says he is having trouble with getting the clam to line up and invites me to have a look at what he is on about. The mould was not great so i can see what he is on about so now he says another 3 weeks to completion.Well get near the 3 weeks call him and ask him when its going to be finished and he pretty much says in a nutshell that im one of the most pushy customers he has had and says that i can take it somewhere else if i want to.
All i do is call him once a week to have an update on progress and see when it might be finished.Well the following monday he calls to apologise about our chat which i respected and said that he has cancelled couple of jobs till completion of mine(has obviously been under cosh with other cars to be completed and not getting on with mine).that was 3 weeks ago went to look at car yesterday. Its all ready for primer and spraying i was hoping it would be ready for breakfast club next sunday but he says it will be 95% done but needs 2 weeks to completion. But if he tells me near the end of the 2 weeks not ready i dont know if i can take much more to be honest.
I hold my hands up for not taking it to recommended repaire and going to one of my choice the guy is a really nice guy but it will be over 4 months off road when its back.Sometomes its good to just have a rant and get things off your chest.Im an easy going guy but this has really tested my patience sometimes i even forget that im part of the nobility its been so long.I did not want to upset him as i want a good job done but be nice to hear how you guys would have played it surely im not unreasoonable in thinking i have been fobbed off along the way would any off you guys have accepted it?put up with it?The other thing i could not understand is he had layed out over 4k in parts etc surely it would have been in his interest to have a quick turnaround so insurance can settle him up?

Sorry to hear you are still having issues and probably not what you want to hear (besides use paragraphs wink) but we did try and warn you before Xmas.

Here!

I would immediately inspect the car now to make sure you are happy with the fit of the rear clam before he paints it.

Next problem you may have is that he cannot match the paint due to changes in the mix (oil vs water) and how he blends in the clam to the sides of the car.

Then of course there is the quality of the spray job - the clams on our cars have lots of bends and corners so needs someone who has experience of such complex parts to get a good finish - otherwise you could end up with lots of imperfections/peel effects in the paint.

Given the performance to date I would also consider taking the car elsewhere for painting - he has made you that offer.

Good job you are 'Cool Chris' because l couldn't have put up with being treated like that, think now you have gone so far & the car is nearly ready guess through gritted teeth you will have to see it out !
Only good thing is that it's been over the winter, hope you get it back very soon.

thanks for the comments David.I inspected the car yesterday and everything looks fine.He is going to spray everything up to the front clam Like gto600 says i am just gritting my teeth till it is done.Ah we live and learn yes the only consolation is the time of year.I just wish he could have looked at it from my point of view im sure he would haver been really peed off if ball was on other foot.

Chris,

In my opinion they are taking the p**s, i only really got started with my rebuild in Nov and now it is pretty much finished and that is including getting delayed 4 weeks with my painter.

I think you are right to be pushing, it seems to me that they have been putting your car to the back of the queue to fit in lots of inbetween jobs, it annoys me when they do that, why should you have to wait just because they can not turn down work, they should honour the work they have already takwen on before taking on more work that they obviously can not handle, without somebody being let down. Yeah sure he is cancelling some jobs now, too little too late, your missing an event now because of that Richard keranium.

If that were me then they would have been dealing with a very pissed off customer 3 months ago.furious

Hi Chris
I totally agree with you i was thinking to myself the other day you could pretty much re buid a car in that time.I cant help think that because he is friends with my mechanic that he thinks he was doing me a favour.I work for myself as a decorator and i dont know how my customers would feel me starting a job and leaving half way through to finish another job when i start a job i dont crack on with the next till all finished.I just hate being fobbed off and made to look like a mug id rather someone be straigt up and say yes it will be done by ? date or x date. All i ever got when i call him to see how he is getting on is its all in hand chris we are getting there mate well how long is a piece of string i say.
