Help Please: AC fuses blowing

Hi Guys,

Was out yesterday and playing about with the relays to check them on the wash/wipe system in an attempt to get it to work.

After pulling out a few relays and replacing the wiper motor relays, I turned the ignition and pop went the 2 AC and blower 15amp fuses.

I have all the relays pushed in correctly. I assume all the relays are the same, ie shouldnt matter what relay goes where

Any advice much appreciated.

Nope, all the relays are not the same, some are changeover relays.

... Ohhh - always bad to assume is once again the lesson learnt here, Can anyone tell me what relays are meant to be in the AC ones please? From there I should be able to trace back what ones should go where.

Ie is there a part number difference that I could go on?

Just had a look at the US build manual and it shows
relay
a
b
c
d
g
h
i
k
l
all are the 4 pin
e
f
j
are the 5 pin

top left relay is a, top right is d, sure you can work the rest out from there

So i dont have any letters to show what relay is what.

From just talking out the relays I seem to have 2 part numbers to choose from

part number 4RA 940010-67 - when i look at the diagram on the relay, it shows 30 going into a battery shape but doesnt link to 87.

part number 4RD 003520-08 - when i look at the diagram on the relay, This relay does a straight link to 30 - 87a and doesnt go to the battery.

Can you tell me what the 2nd row down should have, going from left to right. IE from what u said before g h i k.

Ps mine is a 2.5 and only has 3 rows of Ralays.

from looking at the noble build manual,

It should be like this i think

2nd row should be....

Relay E: 4RD 003520-08 (87a)
Relay F: 4RD 003520-08 (87a)
Relay G: 4RA 940010-67
Relay H: 4RA 940010-67

But still blowing the Fuses

Mine is a 3ltr but still only has 3 rows of relays
I thought the relays had 87a on them if they were the changeover ones and should be in
middle row left
middle row 2nd from left
bottom row 2nd from left
I cannot remember how I found out which ones went where when I made the same mistake as I didn't have the build manual then.
Let me know how you get on

Yeah, this configuration as you say above is what i also went for off the build manual. Still no joy. I wonder could i have damaged one of the relays putting it into the wrong slot and trying it? or could there be something else gone in the circuit after the mistake.

Nope, both the ac fueses blow on turning the ignition on.

So the fuses (11 and 12, right?) both blow whenever you turn on the ignition, even if you have the AC off? This, combined with the problems you're having with the wiper system, sounds like you may have a problem with the fuse/relay panel itself. You might want to unbolt the fuse/relay panel and check behind for wiring damage, water, etc. Many times condensation will drip off the AC lines, or the coolant lines going into the heater core will leak, both of which will land right on the panel...

Jim O, once again thanks for posting on one of my problem threads

Yeah it is fuses 11 and 12 and I have seen this dripping and dampness on the fuse box before so I will look into it.

Out of interest, (as a non mechanical mind) would it be worth while sticking the hair dryer round the fuse box and relays etc just to dry away any potential water issues?

take the ac relay out, replace the fuses and turn the ignition on. If it doesnt blow then you know that relay you have in your hand is wrong and need to find which other circuit has the wrong one in

, fixed, it was the top right ac relay that was away!
