Re-map benefit on a stock car
Discussion
All,
Have done a seach on the forum but to no avail.
I've got a stock M400 (bar the fuel pump wiring mod) and having read various threads it seems that a re-map should release its "true" performance as the standard map is sub-par.
I'm not currently in the market for material mods (intercooler, exhaust etc) but would definitely map the car if there is a tangible benefit.
Any advice on the following would be much appreciated:
- Will a re-map benefit a stock M400 which has had no modifications?
- What sort of bhp/lbft increase could one expect?
- How much would it / should it cost?
Cheers.

Mark,
The stock map is pretty close to the limit for a proper-performing M400. The valve surge issue prevents most cars on standard exhausts running much more than 12psi of boost, the injectors max out at 450bhp, the standard intercooler is really too small for the M400 meaning that it can quickly get into detonation preventing spark retard etc.
Personally speaking, I believe there is not much left to be had on a standard car that's still performing well (a bit more torque maybe). Free up the exhaust and put a better intercooler on it and then a remap is worth it.
Hope that helps,

I know Trevor (Yellowshed) knows his stuff so not going to argue. If it was mine I would want to know what it was running now, as I think a lot are running less than they should. My GTO3 was 50 BHP down from standard, and the map was all was required to put it back to standard, or could have had 400BHP for the same price.
