Heat Insulation

I got the T28's fitted and took the opportunity to do some extra heat insulation, I eventually got round the wrapping the headers, the flexi joints have been wrapped in exhaust tape and then alloy glass cloth over the top, seems to be very effective.
After running the car for about an hour, i could touch the turbo jackets without losing skin, and there was a noticable difference in under hood temperatures, due to the IC box also being heat insulated this was literally cool to the touch.



The fuel system is also completely heat insulated including the fuel rail as can be seen on the pics below, this is to combat fuel evaporation.

Yep is also meant to help with spool, will report back when I get mine on the rollers some time soon I hope, got my DEI titanium blankets from Nimbus Motorsport if your looking to get some...

That's fine while the engine is running (or at idle), but once the engine is turned off the lack of a radiation/convection path for the heat in the turbo means there is major heat soaking of turbo bearings and oil in the turbo which will ultimately lead to oil coking and early turbo failure IMO. I am not aware on any OEM manufacturer that fits turbo blankets on their turbo cars that are designed to survive 50-100 K maintenance-free miles.
Agreed but I am a*al about warming and cooling my turbos so not a problem for me, also I use very good oil..

As with all turbo engine you are best to drive them nice and steady the last couple of miles to let everything cool down a little. THis SHOULD neagte any problems with coking as the turbo CHAR temps should be pretty low when you turn of the engine. If you are really worried about it you could look at getting some water cooled CHARs made up (the Garrett GT stuff are water cooled). As for why OEMs dont fit them, come on, you are talking about companies that are ALL about PROFIT! why would they add a thermal blanket to reduce under bonnet temps when it is going to add another couple of hunred quid to the cost of building the cars? Also OEMS generally aren't chasing every last BHP so there is plenty of to make up the power lost by higher intake temps! The EVO for example runs an AFR in the 10s under full boost to stop dept. thats WAY to much for max power and tuners can make more power simply by leaning the fuel out a little. But thats not the goal for the OEM.
FInalyl if you are serious about reducign underclip temps then here are a coupke of things to look into:
Inconnel maifolds and pipework
Thermal Barrier Coatings (Ceramic)
Inconnel exhaust wrap (look at a companie called ATP wrap in the US)

mainly reducing intake air temps. higher intake temps will obviously lead to less pwoer and a greater chance of dept. Also reducing clip temps means you dont ahve to worry about other stuff melting. lol Paint can also discolour if exsposed to high temps. And obviously fiber glass dosen't like hgih temps either. The main ways to reduce these temps are as chris has done by keeping the hot stuff hot and by increasing air FLOW around and through the engine compartment. i highlighted flow as its not just about getting the air in but out also! THere will be a point where you are seeing little to no gains from reducing temps. In fact you could end up drasticly increasing the drag (thanks to trying to pump soo much air through the engine bay) of the car with all the scoops and vents and increasing weight with all the heat shielding you have used.
