HID vs Stock bulbs
Discussion
I know i had stated previously taht i had HID's fitted but it was a premature statement due to the fact i have had the kit for 6 months waiting to be fitted, anyway i eventually got round to fitting it, very simple job, i also changed the side lights to super bright LEDS and the high beams to Xenon H7. Here is the pic with the new bulbs.

And here is the pic with the Xenon high beams.

and here is the pic to how it was before

The kit cost about £80 and is very simple to fit, just bolt the ballast into the cover, take the two wires that were plugging into the original bulb and plug them into the ballast, you need to cut a bit off the back of the lighting bezel for it to fit.

I put a set on my car which is not a 3r
Problem with this version though is finding somewhere to put the ballast, they are supposed to be waterproof but both of my ballasts failed due to water inbreed and I have now gone back to normal lamps.
My lamps did not flicker to start but after about 4 months they did.

Not the cheapest, but really helpful.http://go.redirectingat.com/?id=1044X509854&xs...
If you can't fit the ballast in the head light housing, I would recommend a ge-wiss style box, any electrical wholesaler will sell them, for example:

Guy's, Just be careful. I've heard that from May onwards any car not fitted with Xenons or HID's as standard, or the correct lenses for these types of lights will be failed at MOT. That is of course if they are fitted when the MOT is done
on a stock 3r the lights are supposed to be bi xenon , so therefore will it pass the mot ?
I undestand that if the units were designed for them (which it sounds like the 3R ones are) then you are Ok. I was trying to find the info I read on the VOSA site, but can't. It also mentioned something about checking the presence and functionality of levelling devices for vehicles fitted with HID's (usually levers on the suspension) and headlamp washers on converted cars. Sorry, this is as much as I can remember.
I was thinking of doing the conversion on both of my cars, but this put me off until I find out if it is being bought in.

The legal requirement is clear. All HID equiped cars need to have auto levelling and headlamp washers fitted.I was thinking of doing the conversion on both of my cars, but this put me off until I find out if it is being bought in.
The MOT has always therefore meant to check for it. I imagine all DVLA is doing will be making sure their inspectors during their random observations will check this is being checked, and hence MOT places will start to enforce.
It's all covered here

Getting confused here... Do 3Rs have HIDs or not - I`m presuming not? When I took my car for it`s MOT recently the tester asked if it had a leveling system - which it doesn`t. He passed the car OK but if it does have HIDs will there be problems in the future even if everything is OEM?

No, 3Rs (or any other model, for that matter) do not have factory fitted HIDs. The advertising literature did mention bi-xenons at one stage but these were never fitted. The fact that you can't see a darned thing at night in a standard Noble should be a clue. After market HIDs at least allow you to see where you are going at night and as the cars are so low and generally not towing caravans there is never a problem with causing a nuisance to on coming drivers if the headlamps are adjusted correctly. And this is always tested at MoT.RobP said:
