Rattle noise

Me again, so driving the beast around today and it's started to make rattling noise from behjnd me. It's not the exhaust, it's sound like the undertray but untill I get it on some ramps I can't be sure. Does any1 suggest other stuff I should look for? Thanks

Probably a turbo heatshield.

If it's a 'tinny' ratlle see above. Not much else to rattle in the rear.

Yep, could well be the turbo heat shield. It's a piss-poor bit of aluminium that snaps. I fixed mine with a bit of metal from B&Q and come screws instead of the rivots that hold it together.

I had a rattle behind me - turned out to be the strap which holds the petrol tank in place was loose!

I think it was the heatshield that caused the rattle in my Dad's M12.

Check if the front turbo to intercooler pipe can touch the alternator as it vibrates.

I had what sounded like a rattle but only when hot - lower ball-joint would you believe!

If its a tinny vibration type of rattle then i would say front turbo heat shield, but if not there are many potential causes, as above.
If the noise is resonating into the cabin then check to see if exhaust is touching chassis.
If it sounds like underpan then check under side pods, where plates over lap, if it is this then put a couple of rivets through to join them together.

btw if yu change the material of the front heat shield, it will not rattle, also you can pop a sound deadening pad on the existing.



I have now removed all heat shields from the engine bay due to wrapping headers, exhaust and turbos, this is a much more effective way of protecting surrounding components from heat damage and also helpsn improve airflow through engine bay.
