Oil cooler Fitted

I got round to fitting the oil cooler today and the fans, i've got pretty good airflow into the side pods now, so the fan on the oil cooler is for when in traffic, the fans on the rear clam work very well, they kick out an amazing ammount of hot air, i'm not going to bother measuring under hood temps as i should have measured before doing all the heat wrapping and insulation, but it seems to be keeping pretty cool in there.
I also removed the alloy coolant header tank, although it looked good, it was like having another radiator in the engine bay, so i got a new plastic tank and changed back, it actually loosk ok when the plastic tank is new, its only when they get old and stained and cracked that they look untidy.







When i took out the old water/oil cooler, under the thermal sleeve this is waht i found.



Signs of a water leak which was hidden from view , i'm glad i found it, another possible pressure leak eliminated from the coolant system.



and yet another redundant part for the shed.

Yes your right, I have to fit some aluminium plates to act like a scoop for the oil cooler, i have some 2mm ali plate ready for the job, the plates will narrow down to the cooler so pressure should build up as the air reaches the oil cooler, i will attack this part of the job tommorrow.

Any pics you have got of what you have done on your car would be greatly appreciated.

mine are glassfibre, from memory I used half the sidepod for the oil cooler and half for the alternator and front turbo, I don't think I have any pictures,but I'll take a look, 2mm sounds a little over the top, 0.8 would be easily thick enough, and a lot easier to work with.

I was thinking about making something similar to this that my friend did on his Skyline, you can about see it on the front where he has made a scoop out of aluminium on each side for the oil coolers.

the fans under the clam look like a pretty straight forward mod. you reckon they do make a noticeable difference?

i recon it would be one of the cheapest performance mods you could do for your money mine is a bit more xtream though than chrisis
