Tesla Model 3 2024 - column stalks
Discussion
Enhance, who make the S3XY Buttons and S3XY Knob programmable controllers, have come up with column stalks for the 2024 Model 3 'Highland'. Like the buttons and knob they're programmable to do lots of things other than indicator controls. Looks interesting.

The Model 3 indicator stalk is coming back, but only in China (for now?)

My Cerbera has the horn button on the steering wheel arms. This is a spectacularly stupid idea. You have no chance of finding it if someone cuts you up on a roundabout, for example.
If I bought a Tesla so-equipped I would factor the cost of this in.
Bring back the stalk mounted horn button. Bliss. If I bought a Tesla so-equipped I would factor the cost of this in.

I'm sure that will eventually return for UK cars too.https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/tesla/model-3/367596...
The system works better on the Ferrari as it has one button on each side - the Tesla system is much more confusing, especially if you're going round a corner and then want to use an indicator.

Just read that stalks are coming back and can be fitted to Highland Model 3s. Cost is estaimated at around £/$ 350 fitted. I agree it's crazy to pay extra for stalks but for some (including me) it might be difference between buying a new Model 3 or not.
Is this a standard Tesla option, or aftermarket? It's one of the issues preventing me from getting a Model 3.Tesla have just approved the return of the stalks for cars in all markets, according to a source. Sounds like they'll likely be rolled out in Q4 this year - or in other words, any new cars built now will have them. Less likely that cars already on boats being shipped will have them, but time will tell soon enough.
Will be interesting to see what price point Tesla offer these as a retro-fit for existing 24/25 cars. The chinese are paying the equivalent of £350 for a new steering wheel as well as the stalks. Personally, I'd probably accept leaving the wheel 'as-is' if it made the cost noticeably cheaper.
Odd idea poorly implemented, either way.

The configurator is still showing steering wheel buttons in the UK and there is no stalk in the tesla shop, and noboidy seems to have reported it as available via the service menu.
So whilst it may be coming, its not here yet.
And itnernet rumours are always just that, a mixture of wishful thinking and spam for clicks from some of the well known Tesla sites who often get at least the timing, if not the substance, wrong.

I do recall seeing an interview with the head of interior design for Tesla, which given how minimalist the interiors are, must be an easy job
He said that in hindsight taking out the stalks was a bad idea. And he said something like - if you don't have to add something back, then you weren't taking out enough in the first place.
So it seems that they do intend to do it, but if or when it comes to the UK market we don't know.

I just bought a set of aftermarket stalks for my Plaid. While the on-screen gear selector works well and became second nature in short order, the button indicator setup still makes me look down almost every time, even after 8 months of ownership.
I haven t installed the stalks yet, but will report back once they’re functional.

Apparently the indicator stalks are coming to Europe, and there is also going to be a front-mounted camera.

That would fix 2 of my deal breakers with the Model 3, and make it much more attractive. I assume that the UK would get these as well. (i.e. Europe in this context means the continent of Europe, not "mainland Europe" or "EU").

I am sure that one can get used to the indicator buttons. I think that historically, people who bought Teslas were heavily into tech and were willing to experiment with new interfaces. But they now have much more widespread adoption; for example, loads of Ubers in my area are Tesla. And the drivers are definitely not tech bros. That part of the market doesn't want to experiment with the basics of a car user interface. They are more conservative. They have always had stalks and so, rightly or wrongly, they expect stalks.
