Hi guys,

I recently purchased a 2021 (71) Tesla Model 3 from a dealership, everything was going fine... I drove 150 miles back home after collecting the car, took the exit to Northampton and at low speeds...

I can hear squeaking sounds come from front driver side, and over bumps and when I steer the steering wheel mostly right... It's annoying!

I was wondering, could an independent garage fix this? Has anybody got experience of this issue and how they fixed it? Also how much did it cost?

I have messaged the dealership, hopefully they can offer to repair this as I'm under CRA 2015 but I suspect they may say its general wear and tear etc... it even passed MOT just few days ago.

Advice welcomed, thank you!

Control arm wear isn't an uncommon occurrence. It's not a complicated or expensive repair, and any shop that has dealt with Tesla over the years has probably seen it before. Good luck with it!

Why aren t you going back to the dealer who sold you it to fix it. The problem will be assumed to have been there at the time of sale.

If the part isn’t available it’s nothing but a pain in the bum getting bits, I’d turn the job away. Unless the owner could order the part from Tesla, you don’t appear to be able to call them it’s either email or through an app.

Hi mate,

Sounds like a suspension issue, pretty common on Model 3s — likely bushings, control arm, or anti-roll bar links. Nothing major, just annoying.

Yes, an independent garage can fix it no problem, usually cheaper than Tesla. Rough cost: £100–£400 depending on the part.

Since you’ve just bought it, definitely push the dealer first. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, they should sort it — hard to call that “wear and tear” so soon.

I’d let them handle it before going elsewhere 👍

Tesla parts supply is fine for Model 3.

There isn’t much available aftermarket and buying from Tesla as a garage is just about impossible. As I said if someone enquired about parts we would most likely turn the job away.

As an owner I’ve only ever dealt with Tesla service directly and they just replaced some worn suspension control arms/bushes under warranty. All parts were in stock.

There are a few Indy garages who will have the parts too. Cleevely for example.

I also think it’s easy for owners to order parts directly too, but never had to do that.

For the owner it’s easy, for a garage it’s a pain. We want to speak to someone- which doesn’t appear to be the Tesla way. It was the rear hubs we gave up on, however dvsa have put a special notice out for those now about how to test and not fail them
